I hate the fact that whenever I try to bring up cyber security and privacy, I just get laughed at and called a conspiracy theorist. People genuinely believe Facebook isn't collecting user data, and call me the crazy one.

we literally all called them out as a Chinese spy app when it was released. the ARMY literally had safety briefings about it. anyone who downloaded it and suffers because of it should and had every chance to know better.

Man I’ve been trying to educate my mum and co worker about Facebook and the likes of - stealing information and ‘spying’ on you. They didn’t believe it but would be surprised and find it weird that Facebook would offer them advertising based on recent conversations or things they’ve looked up online.
People genuinely don’t know and it’s weirdly scary how much people aren’t willing to believe these companies WILL and DO steal and sell our information.

The only thing that shocks me about this is that Buzzfeed did some actual journalism. I don't think people care though. Spying by social media companies has been common public knowledge since 2013. People pretended to care after that, and sure, some of us still think privacy is a human right. But most folks still willingly hand over their data to these companies. And the government ain't ever going to regulate it because they're profiting off it. big time. Information is power in today's world. As for TikTok, conservatives have been saying it's a CCP psyop for a while now. And looking at the content on there, I mean... it's really hard to argue against that.
