In this video, I will show you how to remove line breaks in Excel (using Find and Replace).

Line Break is what makes it possible to have a new line in the same cell in Excel. In some cases, you may want to remove these line breaks and get all the data in one line only.

For example, if you have names data with the first name is one line and the last name in one line, you may want to remove the line break and get it all together in one line.

In this video, I will show you how to use Find and Replace to find all the line breaks and replace these with a blank or a comma. The trick here to tell Find and Replace to find line breaks, which you can do by using the keyboard shortcut Control + J.

This video is a part of my 'Excel is two-minute' series, where I share simple and quick tips to help you speed up your work and be more efficient

I don't know that Ctrl + J insert Linebreak. The =TRIM(CLEAN(B2)) function works just great.
Thank you!

Hi Sumit.. thanks for sharing this tip which is super helpful when you want to modify the data directly. In certain circumstances, like some of the commenters below, I use SUBSTITUTE to do it with a formula. It is kind of strange that you can't FIND and REPLACE CHAR(10) in the dialog box which would be more obvious. But, CTRL+J gets it done, even if somewhat of an obscure way of referencing the line break character. I use this often when cleaning data from third party sources. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Thumbs up!

NIce its very good tips. We also use =SUBSTITUTE(A2, CHAR(10), ", ") for this.

if this doesn't work with excel for m365 desktop check the sensitivity on your document. if it's set to a non-public sensitivity you may not be able to perform special edits like this on your document because you're opening it on your 'public' workspace. and unfortunately this trick doesn't work in m365 cloud.
