Behringer X32 User Output Routing

Want to record your stream on the X-USB, X-Live, or OBS? User Output Routing is where you can do this! User Routing on the firmware version 4 and newer allows for 1 to 1 patching on the Behringer X32 and Midas M32. In this video I talk about how to use User Routing on the output side as well as a few examples that I see all of the time out in venues and churches.

Chapters:
00:00 Intro
00:50 Practical Use of User Output Routing
01:23 30 Channels + 2 Outputs for Stream
07:00 What can you select with User Output Routing?
07:27 Conclusion

I was initially confused about how the User Input 8-channel blocks could feed the X-Dante card as outputs. I then really got confused when I discovered that User Output 8-channel blocks could contain both Inputs and Outputs, both of which functioned as outputs when used with the X-Dante card. Thanks to Drew's videos, I think I now understand. For input sources, the User Input 8-channel blocks can be used for both X32 Inputs and X-Dante card inputs whereas User Output 8-channel blocks can only be used to configure the input to the expansion card, in my case, the X-Dante card and can contain both Inputs and Outputs of all types.

Hello
I also make tutorials in French, and I just wanted to congratulate you for the quality and precision of your tutorials, it's really great.
Thanks
Best regards

Hey Drew, great explanation of the X32 features. Some real gems you’ve shared, thank you! One question I do have is how can a person make use of all 48 user outs, given the USB card only caters for 32 outputs?

Brilliant explanation of the the Aux out

Great info as always! I find a great lesson for these is connecting 2 consoles and setting up user routing to send all the outputs through a stage box or local outputs (IE, setting outputs 13-16 to take Fill, Sub, and Main LR from the FOH console and the other outputs fed from the monitor console)

I would love to see you do an in depth video, explaining all of the options that you can route in the block and patch points sections of the router options tab on the Behringer X32.

I grew up mixing an analog board(I think it was a Behringer XL3200 analog mixer, but not 100% on that) and so going from a straightforward 1 to 1 plug in from an analog snake to having options for both physical and virtual routing connections is a bit intimidating and challenging to maneuver especially when you are trying to reroute to the main PAs, a subwoofer, and a livestream and not really knowing which settings to route or if you have to do that in multiple places or not.

Ideally it would be a breakdown like this:
-What is the input tab and what does it do?
-What is the AES A tab and what does it do?
-What is the AES B tab and what does it do?
-What is the card tab and what does it do?
-What is the XLR tab and what does it do?
-What is out and what does it do?
-What is aux and what does it do?
-What is P16 and what does it do?
-What is User and what does it do?

Giving practical examples would be really helpful of some common ways you've seen people do it. For example, if the input is where you configure routing for the inputs from your board to a digital stage box like an S16, describe what the outcome of you routing the inputs accomplishes.

If you already have a video like that and can link it, that would be helpful as well. Thanks Drew!

Hello Drew. Thanks for explicit courses. My question is what if I want to send subs to the card too?

I have a board that was in place from a previous owner at a theater and the have it so mix bus 1-12 are different speakers but also the master is controlling different speakers. My client who owns the board wants the LR main to be a master volume. How can I change this to be this way.

Hi Drew! Thanx for making our life easy. Still a bit confused about routing and user routing.
How to separate or use 16 outputs from Stagebox and 16 outputs from mixer simultaneously?

Video Suggestion: Waves Supperrack with X32. Also Virtual Soundcheck with Waves SuperRack on the same computer. The routing can be complex. There’s not a lot of youtube content on this.

Hi thank you for sharing knowledge. I would like to request to please make a video for x32 rack using software application. Thank you.

I need guidance on how to do output to the different stage boxes not to a stream. For example, we want our mains going out of the main consul, we want our in ears going out of a stage box. I thought this worked like user input routing, but it doesn’t appear to. I was hoping you could simply send output one to XLR one for example, on the console and output two to AES 50 output one.

Hi Drew, Thank you for this vid. I like the idea of using card out 31 and 32. However, if I am not mistaken, OBS only sees output 1 and 2. How can I configure OBS to use 31 and 32 for my livestream? Thx

Drew, thank you how to record mix on channels 31, and 32. It worked perfectly. But, recently I used mix bus 12 to create a livestream for a venue to feed its remote rooms and now do not hear X-Live playback of the channels 1-30 to perform virtual sound check. Do you have a video showing how to setup if I mistakenly used mix buses wrong? Thanks.

I’m using the usb for live streaming directly to my computer using OBS and I also want to record on the SD card at the same time . When I use the routing that you showed on the video I don’t get my local in 1 and aes50 2 to play back on the faders that They are assigned to. It should show up on the output I assigned it to right?

Drew, thanks for how to setup for x-LIVE recording. I setup my x32 for matrix 1 for PA top L, matrix 2 for PA top R, and Matrix 3 for subs as mono. In this routing video I think I need to have an output 30 for the sub matrix, correct? Not just 31 and 32 for mains? I like being able to control the sub volume separate from the tops but we just bought EV tops that match our EV subs. Should I change the use of matrices to use the X32 default Main LR bus and the MC bus now that the powered EV enclosures can handle the crossover main to subs? Thank you.

Hola Drew. I did sound at our Church in Chicago when we had a Mackie 32-8 but I’m on the camera now and we have a behringer x32 that I haven’t learned. How can I set up the output to adjust each channel when needed to send or adjust the volume level to the output level to the camera. Our Brother that usually does the audio hasn’t had time to set that up. Thank You Felix

So I have been following your tutorials and recently started doing multi track recording but when I went to listen to my church Livestream I couldn't hear any of the instruments and none of the vocal effects on my lead singer and pastor mic any idea why?? I stream through obs and used tracks live for multi track recording

Do you know what the tap point is? Meaning, if you assign IN 1 to one of the user outputs, is that at the head amp level? I'm guessing there's no way to get it to include the processing (comp, eq). Thinking through a way to get away from P16's. May switch to Klang, but sending unprocessed audio to a monitoring solution isn't very appealing.
