Partition, Use One External Drive for Time Machine and File Storage

preview_player
Показать описание
In this video, you will see how to use one portable drive(SSD, HDD) for both Time Machine backups, and for your own personal file storage. Instead of arranging Time Machine your entire drive no matter how much unused space you have on it, but this is a way around that.

Thank you so much for making this video, you helped save a video making trip outside my country where I only brought one HD and the entire thing was formatted to Time Machine and there was no way to manually drag and drop files onto it. Very grateful!!!

Thank you! Sandisk didn't know or was able to provide this info after an hour of talking to them. And it took apple 3 hours to go through everything else to finally let me know what to do but not how to do it.

I think in the new MacBooks you can go for APFS for SSD then create multiple volumes within a single container, with dynamically located space. That's what I'm just testing.

Bear in mind APFS has no pre-2016 compatibility

Hi. I needs to set up Time Machine on an external drive that already has data on it but is formatted as exFat. Is this tutorial for a blank drive? Is it possible to partition a drive that already has data but is formattted as exFAT? Some people may not realize that "formatting" also means erasing. Are we erasing/formatting only a "part" of this drive.

Thank you, thumbs-up. The only question remaining is, can you erase only a portion of the drive and create a new partition there or not? Sometimes you already have something on a disk and you want to keep it, while taking a portion of the free space and creating a new partition for Time Machine to use.

I would have liked to see you take the extra steps to setup "Time Machine" instead of skipping through it by hitting "decide later." Oh well, at least the Partitioning instructions were clear...
