I sit down with Bori, a Hungarian in Budapest to talk about the Hungarian mentality. Are Hungarians rude? Complainers? Why is it that they earned this reputation around the world?

As a fellow Hungarian, I would say the Dutch are more direct, but it is generally true in any Eastern European country that people are more direct compared to the "western countries" (except the Dutch and the German).

I toured all over Europe with a Hungarian band, Ektomotf, and I absolutely love those guys. Super hilarious and warm people. They were so gracious and openly appreciative of my work. I miss them!!

The strange thing, is that Dutch would say their honest opinion to everyone and anyone, whereas there’s layers in cultures which are more concerned with tact

Here in Ireland we are not like that. A huge part of our culture is being nice. Here in Cork, we call it "being sound". People wont lie to you, but they will frame things in a very nice way or else say nothing. People are also forgoving and understanding(although sometimes too much).

It is a big thing here in Ireland.

Hungarians are direct and not interested in what's superficial? I'd like to marry this girl!

I have a Hungarian wife and mother-in-law....they are so difficult to decide and please....they must always analyse everything... especially when they must choose something in a restaurant.

My Hungarian tutor giggles at any mildly interesting thing. It’s quite fun you can tell she authentically enjoys her job.

The Hungarians are direct. They talk directly and they get to the point. The
Anglo Saxon world, and The West EU is indirect.
They talk about things in an indirect ball less way. Hungarians are not like that. Being direct is NOT rude.

I was having a conversation once with an American.

Him: Your bag is really cool.
Me: Thanks, I know.
Him: Wow, your reaction so Hungarian :'D

It feels that most countries that were ex soviet republics tend to like complaining a lot as a form to express their opinion.
