How to Cut to the Aces from a Shuffled Deck!

History and Crediting:
Although I was the one to put this sequence of moves together to form a production routine, none of the moves are original to me. The plot of finding the aces has been around for many years, and it's difficult to trace it's origins due to the vast number of publications referencing it. However the core principle most likely stems from the stock controls used by card cheats as early as the late 1500s. Indeed the first reference to controlling a stock of cards was in The Discoverie of Witchcraft by Reginald Scot in 1584 (Page 188). However it is more thoroughly discussed later in The Expert At The Card Table by S. W. Erdnase in 1902 (Page 41 depending on the edition). Since then, Ed Marlo has undoubtedly had the biggest influence on the plot, publishing countless versions and variations from the 1950s to the late 80s.

The first reference to using a corner crimp to find a card is in The Art of Legerdemain Discovered, written in 1634 by Hocus Pocus Junior (Page 51). Since then various authors have published touches and methods involving this kind of crimp.

John Benzais was the man who from whom the Benzais Spin-Out originated, and he first published it in his book The Best of Benzais (1967) on page 67.

Finally, the slip cut was first published in The Expert At The Card Table on page 45 as a way to retain complete stock.
