Thanks for this tip! I applied it to the dark parts of a church ruin and blended it in, works perfect as it contrasts to beautifully with the lighter yellow-ochre sandstone parts! I also want to mention that shadows using a black fountainpen and touched with a damp brush to let the activated ink run produces lovely lively shadows.

I like using a drop of clear water into the shadows to infuse a bit of light...done at the right time it will not create a huge bloom, but a subtle way of breaking up a boring shadow. Like your videos and work very much, thanks.

This is a great tip! And you’re right—I just went back to a couple trash bin sketches I’d done recently (where they ended up looking boring, but I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why) and scattered a touch of blue around. INSTANT pop! Thanks so much!
