A few things to note and some updated/additional info:
- Recent devices now try to get an IP address over DHCP by default, this was a big issue for people not familiar with setting static IPs. If a DHCP server isn't found, the device will give itself a static IP.
It's still better to configure switches with a static IP.
- VLAN 1 can now be configured (mostly). Before, VLAN 1 was on all ports untagged and there was no way to change it. Now it can be tagged or untagged on the ports you choose. It does have to be on at least one port outbound, but PVID does not need any ports set to VLAN 1.
- Newer switches require a newer version of the management application, it's now called "Unmanaged Pro Configuration Utility", and looks pretty much the same as the video. It is is backward compatible with older switches.
- You can access switches via web browser which is fine for just one or two. When you have several, the application is better providing there are no routers between you and any of the devices. If there are routers between, you will have to use the web i/f.
- Note, the management interface, rather through a browser or the app, is not encrypted. There is also no way to restrict access to the management interface to particular port(s), IP address, or MAC address. These deficiencies make the management interface quite insecure. Best not to use these devices where there is a good chance bad actors may be on the LAN, and they certainly shouldn't be internet facing (not behind a firewall).

So here is a question I want to confirm here because I've been going crazy myself trying to figure this out myself, why do we need to include port 1 in all the list if we are trying to make separate vlans? Is it because port 1 is trunk port where the switch connects to? I just want to make sure i'm understanding this right for myself is all.

I don’t know why there are so many dislikes here. The setting works. I checked with the ping command, the devices do not see each other

A few days ago I bought TP Link TL-SG108E switch and install Easy Smart application on my computer for the reason of watching IPTV to Nvidia TV Pro box. Then I started the connection as follows:
- modem (port3, video), where I have IPTV I connected to the TP Link switch (on port1),
- from the Cisco switch (which I have connected to the modem, trunk) I made a connection to the TP link switch (to port2) so now I have trunk and video on the TP Link switch,
- from the TP Link switch (port3) I made a connection to a computer for IPTV (2nd network card on the computer),
- from the TP Link switch (port4) I made a connection to Nvidia for IPTV.
I toyed with the settings for the TP Link switch (VLAN) and somehow managed to get IPTV on Nvidia and on the computer (Multicast) but when I went to shift something I lost the IPTV on Nvidia (what I done, I don't know), on Multicast computer IPTV works fine.

I have a problem (probably this is also the reason) with the settings of the TP Link switch (VLAN) because I don't know much about it. Application, which I use on Nvidia TV Pro for IPTV is Tivimate (free version). Please can you help me with settings for VLAN (Easy Smart application) for TP Link switch.

Thanks for this - but... there is no need to circle every button three times before clicking. Or if we are enabling something, just click on 'enable' - the only time you need to spell it out is when there is a whole page of options and confusion would be possible. But, thanks again!
