I Try to Explain Egyptian Mythology

Hey look I'm finally doing Egyptian myths like the story of how Atum emerged from Nun and created the world and the death of Osiris and the contendings of Horus and Set and can you tell I'm just trying to put as many relevant Egyptian Mythology keywords I can think of in this description for SEO purposes?

Interesting that Horus was described as feeble and weak but grew up to be strong. Almost like the Egyptian Royal line was in denial about the effects of incest…
“Our child was born weak and deformed! Do you think it’s because we’re siblings?”
“Nah, I’m sure they’ll grow out of it.”

I do like how Thoth is constantly writing as if he's recording history as it's happening.

The Set's salad clickbait is one of the best drawn things in the past 20 years, bravo.

I love the “He put WHAT in Set’s salad?!?!?” A good nod to the myth without getting demonetised

You cleverly went over the Lettuce incident with Set and Horus without drawing much suspicion, didn't ya?

The thumbnail for “He put WHAT in Sets salad?!?!” is a masterpiece

I love that you were able to sidestep the "Set and Horus banged real hard and Horus let Set think he came inside him but caught his semen and threw it in the Nile and then Horus put his come in Set's salad so when the gods judged who won this round and Set claimed he conquered Horus by coming inside him the gods called to each of their semen and Set's semen responded from the Nile while Horus' semen responded from Set's stomach so they awarded Horus the win for sneakily getting his come inside his uncle" myth

yeah

2:09 I love how no one before Osiris acknowledged the fact that people eating each other was bad

As an Egyptian this is amazing.

Disclaimer: I am deeply sorry for my intermediate level of English grammar in the sentence above, I have simply failed all English speakers by using this insanely basic way of describing how much of a masterpiece this truly is, I deeply apologize.

0:50 is it CANNON that the Egyptian gods themselves thought inbreeding was bad because the pharaohs sure as hell didn't seem to have gotten the memo 👀

i just realized that the small hieroglyphs at 1:21 say "yw lst z gam" which is supposed to say "you lost the game". nice job jake, use my knowledge of the egyptian language against me.

Top line is facing the wrong way though, so it could be read as "tsl wy z gam"

Let’s go Jake back at it again with the entire reason I actually did research on Mythology and became a pro at it.

You've made some spectacular myth videos, and somehow this is the best one you've made so far. Outstanding. I can't wait for the next one.

Came back to rewatch this after learning more about Egyptian mythology, and I gotta say, now that I know the context of "He put WHAT in Set's salad!?!?" It hits so different.

So, here's one interesting thing I learned about Egyptian Mythology these days

Remember how Atum suddenly turned into Ra? That's mostly because Egypt was really a kind of Game of Thrones with sand - in a smaller scale also. While rulerships conquered each others' cities, it seems like some of them got the knowingly good will of our big boy Alexander of conquering while letting them be with their own cultures. Nevertheless, they would share some funnies about each others gods, and that's when Atum and Ra probably merged into one, while being the "supreme and primordial" god of two different cultures.
In some versions of the New Kingdom myths, Ra and Horus are also just one character, but most of the versions I read, Horus took the position of sun God - and thus supreme god - while Ra was in his underworld daily trips. It can be really confusing most of the times

But we're talking about 3000 years of history that is mostly burried and, maybe, lost in translation. So we can be satisfied on what we got

my favorite quote
"Whoa, whoa, I won my kingship fair and square through deceit and treachery." I laughed. You are a really funny person, Jake and I think you should continue to make more videos.

Yay! Thanks for listening to my request and making this funny, (but very very accurate) video, and I'm glad you feel better!
