My Dad always said that nobody really wins a war-it’s just that one side doesn’t lose as much as the other-RIP Dad👍

No matter which side, its always sad to watch an aircraft being hit hard, and know that inside people are dying.

My grandfather flew one of these in World War II. Three planes out of 20 made it back to the states. He was on one of them. There will never be at men like these again.

Yes more than that ammo belt was lost on this day!

Ball turret being torn apart. Sadly, that included probably a 19 year old too.

Never nice to look at footage like this, but then I remember, over 80 million people perished in this damned war. War is horrible

Wow, never seen this before. Looks like one of the shots entered the bottom of the chin turret and destroyed the ammo box and/or the ammo feed to the .50s.

Really shows how much damage those guns can do to a B-17

The way he is just chillin on their 6, tail gunner is gone with out doubt. More than likely everone south of the pilots is gone.

As many times as I've seen this clip, I never realized that piece of debris was a belt of 50 cal

That is a really cool and rare camera catch and a tribute to the planes namesake and brave crews who flew them

Some poor soul died in the making of this video.

Must've been from the ball turret. It took a special kind of someone to man that particular position.

This is so very sad to see, we know many heroes lost their lives in that B17.
