I was once very negative & miserable. It has taken me years & much energy to reprogram my thinking. But it was worth it.
I have the Shad Helmstetter book & it is excellent.

I talk to myself from the time I can remember! People may discourage it sometimes but we actually never stop talking to ourselves.
So let that voice be heard!!

listen very carefully to what he says people. Get this book as soon as you can. I cannot describe the power this book contains. This is one of the only books that can actually be COMBINED with other self help books. Unbelievable.
(note: you really need only the first and last couple of chapters, the middle is "just" repetition)

Recently bought this book. Can't wait to read it! Other books i admire at the moment are :

Psycho-Cybernetics (self image = dictates your entire perception/life experience)

Think and Grow Rich (self assesment and expand your thinking) whatever the mind can perceive and believe, it can achieve.

Meditations (perspective on life / in particular being a good human instead of trying to be perceived as such)

The Shortness of Life (=) life is extremely short. There's really noone to impress and you shouldn't take your time for granted.

The Power of Now / A New Earth (Living fully is to emerge yourself and appreciate every moment. Life is not yesterday or tomorrow. It's right here and now. This is it. This moment is all you get - learn to love it. A superskill to master.

Whereever you go, there you are (=)

The Power of Habit (95 % of all of our behaviors are habits. We're creates of habits running on autopilot all day long - therefore it's an absolute necessity to be highly aware of your programming - learn to delete destructive habits and slowly install new ones in order to optimize your life and be in control (atleast just a little bit).

Feel free to share some book recommendations in which have opened your perspective / improved your life in some way!

Cheers

This all makes since. I have the orgonal 1985 cassette by Shad Helmstedder (Self Talk Cassettes) that keep me company called believing in the incredible you. It's easy to get down on ourselves, atleast I can relate with that, so that is how I came across this video. I was wondering if he was still around :P I am guilty of drowning my feelings with alcohol, and I know having this as a crutch prevents you from growing and maturing. It feels so much nicer to have that natural high in life and to contribute in some way to the world. We need more good people! :) I am backing off of alcohol and talking more positive to myself. It does help. No matter how much of an outcast we may feel. Our body language does alot of talking beyond our verbal language. As they say our eyes are the mirror of our soul, so people see the dullness or sparkle in our eyes. I believe that.... in a soul connection.

Wow! I had this idea of improving internal dialogue and doing the internal acting but never stuck to it. Thanks for the push to actually do it.

There are five levels of self-talk. First level: negative self talk (most people operate at this level). You need to identify if you are the negative level 1 so that you can move up. Second level: "I should not do that" (still a little negative). Third level: I am never going to do that again statments. Fourth level: A positive declaration of the type of person you want to be. For example, say "I am the type of person who get things done!" Level five is when you feel spiritual and a connection to the universe. Shad recommends that all humans need to operate at level four and let level 5 be a by-product. Advice: identify the top 10 negative things you say to yourself. Shad says identify your negative self talk And replace it with multiple positive affirmations self talk. Third big idea: Imagine two versions of you. Imagine the better version of you? Visualize the old version of you into the future self. Keep a deep sense of why. Fourth big idea is Shower talk: these are the affirmative statements from the level four.

There is the sixth level of Self-Talk which is a dialogue in two different languages. And if you are good enough, there is the seven level on what you are able multitalking by using more than 2 languages.

Good summary. I'd like to add, for me the biggest takeaway and the most life-changing one (besides programming and self-talk) was to go into the root causes of your behavior and have an entire BODY of self-talk around it. Not just one line or phrase affirmation. You'll notice there are many areas and different beliefs that lead to that behavior/problem (weight loss or whatever). Address a change in all the areas through self-talk to really address it. The one line affirmation bandaid is insufficient, because the other beliefs in other areas are still there. In summary, the self-talk around a problem should be pretty LONG and specific.
