It was the night of the Last Supper. Jesus, knowing that His hour to leave the world had come, gathered with His disciples in an upper room. As they sat for the meal, He did something that stunned them. Rising from the table, He removed His outer garment, wrapped a towel around His waist, and filled a basin with water.

One by one, He knelt before His disciples and began to wash their feet—a task usually reserved for the lowliest servant. When He reached Peter, Peter protested, saying, “Lord, are You going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand” (John 13:7).

Peter, still hesitant, said, “No, You shall never wash my feet.” But Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me” (John 13:8). Realizing the significance, Peter exclaimed, “Then, Lord, not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!”

After washing all their feet, Jesus said, “Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14). He taught them a profound lesson: true greatness lies in humility and serving others.

This act was a reflection of His ultimate sacrifice—a Savior who came not to be served, but to serve.
