Dave Rubin of “The Rubin Report” talks to Stephen A. Smith about his transition from sports broadcasting to engaging with politics; his unique perspective on race and his ability to navigate diverse viewpoints; his move from Democrat-run New York to Republican-run Florida, motivated by frustration with cold weather, high taxes, and political policies in states like California; his thoughts on political guilt and practical policies and his evolving stance on Trump and the Left; his appreciation for Florida’s financial advantages; political criticism he's faced for being a registered independent; backlash from both conservatives and liberals for his balanced views on policies; how NBA coaches like Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich mix politics with sports; his thoughts on social and fiscal issues, including transgender athletes and women’s rights; Trump’s impact on the NFL and Colin Kaepernick controversies; the influence of politics on sports viewership and branding; his evolving political views and the societal pressures influencing them; his admission of being misinformed about Trump in the past and the community pressure from black community leaders; why he voted for Barack Obama; his critiques of Kamala Harris; his frustration with Obama’s insulting comments toward black, male voters; his critiques of liberal hypocrisy on issues like immigration and economic priorities; why he defends conservative colleagues like Sage Steele; and much more.

He proudly voted Democrat and then strategically moved to a Republican state. Classic.

DeSantis wasn’t saying it was a benefit of slavery. He said the slaves were resourceful enough to triumph in spite of their conditions.

Way too much credit being given to Smith. He’s still a follower when it comes to voting.

He still calls it an insurrection. Voted for Harris. His “enlightened” rhetoric is not consistent with either of those.

I don’t agree with a majority of what he says, but I respect him coming on to have a constructive and open conversation, AND admitting he was “misinformed”.

Mr. Smith fails to understand how people feel about the flag when he wants us to accept Kaepernick’s bending of the knee when the anthem was played. It had nothing to do with the game but the respect that flag deserves. My father served in the Navy during WWII. When he passed away our flag was on his coffin. At the burial site the Dept of Veterans Affairs had a uniformed representative fold the flag into a triangle and hand it me telllng me the President, Navy and a grateful nation appreciated my dad’s service and the flag was a symbol for that appreciation. I will never forget that and am tearing up now just remembering this. I was also raised to pledge allegiance to the flag in school, something Ms. Harris couldn’t recite recently. So Mr. Smith what Kaepernick did was egregious and unforgivable in my view. It had nothing to do with a damn football but when the ball-less league condoned it, then it does become a part of the game.

Although the United States did not establish S upon this continent, it was the United States that abolished it. Thanks to the republican party.

All due respect.. your feelings don’t determine what I’m allowed to say. That’s fucking crazy.

More respectful, disagreements, and conversations like this in our country. You don’t have to agree, but you can still be respectful. Loved watching the two of you talk. Very thought-provoking on both sides.

If he was just as smart as he thinks he is!!!! Just the fact that he voted for Cumla tells me how smart he is

He voted for Kamala based on race and gender not policy. Have no respect for him.

Nothing is holding you down and is on your neck in these days except yourself. Make better choices stop blaming others for your own inadequacies.

He still voted for kamala because of what trump says. How bout what he gets done, that's the issue. A lot of people don't like how trump says a lot of things but his track record for getting things done is so far ahead of everyone else

Ron didn’t say that. It was said by two history professors, brilliant men. By the way, both of them are black was not said by Ron.🙄

This guy is such a mixed bag. It's amazing how he can be completely rational in one minute, and then utterly deranged the next. "I'm incapable of being flagrantly and intentionally unfair." This from the man who still insists that Jan 6 was an "insurrection" without being able to explain how no one was charged with insurrection, there were no weapons, and even Biden has since said that to effectively fight the government you would need F-15s (an interesting expansion to the 2nd Amendment from a devout anti-2A advocate). He supported a blatant diversity hire just because of his dislike of Trump, knowing her "policies" (when she had any) were destructive, and even moving to Florida to get away from those types of policies. The amount of cognitive dissonance in his viewpoints -- while he considers himself a rational and reasonable person -- is mind-boggling. As far as my race determining whether I'm allowed to voice -- or even have -- and opinion on something, that itself is as racist as it gets. No black person in America today will hesitate to speak on white issues or "whiteness" in general, and would claim victimhood if called out on it. Apparently, his white grandmother didn't teach him all he needed to learn about racism.
