Basically we need to hire Todd Phillips for something new every few years and don't bring him back for sequels.

The sequel was never intended. Clearly, everyone involved agreed. Hopefully, studio executives learn to not force stories that were never desired.

I felt the same way walking out of this movie. Unfortunately the movie was made it seems with no narrative purpose. Sort of aimless the cinematography was the best point but everything else seems hallow and empty.. sometimes even boring. The first trailer really showed the energy it could of had but a courtroom drama rehashing the first movie was not interesting and seemed pointless from a sequel story standpoint. Also this movie costing 200 million dollars in lunacy.

Love ya, John, but I would never tell someone to “avoid” a controversial movie.

Society thrives on discourse.

Tell people to go see it and form their own opinions.

The worst takeaway is that this movie pissed you off or you utterly despised every decision it made — in other words it successfully made you feel something and that’s something you can discuss with others

If DC Studios decides to do more Black Label based films, they should be one-shots with no sequels.

The "gotta make more money" argument makes no sense given the ending. The studio would've never allowed that ending if the point of this movie was to make more money. The musical segments were also deep dives into his psyche that helped tell his story, that argument makes no sense either.

Theres 2 facts that made me think this would happen. 1 was that when Joker was made the director and writer said it was a one off. Then they wrote a 2nd when it made $1B. First one came from an idea and the other came from printing money

The minute I knew this movie was going to suck was when the director admitted that he, Joaquin Phoenix and others had to do basically a NFL huddle to rewrite and recontextualize the *basic premise of the movie* multiple times. If you have to constantly rethink and reconceptualize the basic foundation of your sequel, that is an unnecessary sequel.

Todd Phillips got too clever. I'm sure he thought he could ditch 80 years of Joker history and do his own thing: BIG mistake.

Saw it as well, I'll put it this the ending wasn't divisive it's that by the time it reached it's conclusion I just didn't care anymore. I loved the 1st film I just thought folie a deux's story was mediocre. Just watch the 1st one

Joker 2 will never beat the first one.

But I do like the performances, the musical score, the direction and the suspense.

But the ending was dull and it did felt long.

Overall, it’s an ok movie.
