It`s too late when your partner, has gone or has illness. (I know you can look at my videos, but everyone's home is different) Things to know like where is the stopcock, How to fix a dripping tap ,clear a blocked waste. Fix the heating . The location of the consumer unit. The list goes on and on.

Very good advice. I'm generally the one who fixes everything, while my husband doesn't have a clue. I've learned so much from YouTube videos, including yours Al. Take care with that foot, and I hope it heals quickly

Yep, need to learn a few small jobs, my electric water pump wouldn't kick in to circulate the water for the radiators, went on u tube, found instructions from a guy, just tap gently around the motor to loosen the roto blade inside as sediment settles inside over the months during summer, worked a treat, saved getting plumber out...👍🙂

Good points. Al create a checklist. These skills need to be learnt at school and then it is a confidence issue. Practice

Quite agree and it should work all ways around, the ability to do basic DIY, cooking, sewing and other day to day jobs should be taught in schools as well as at home.

Spot on and great videos, tha k you again for your knowledge...I'm tempted maybe next year or yr after at having a go at putting in new kitchen worktops myself with help from a friend ... thinking why not these kitchen fitters charge a fortune...but if I do it I'd also probably shove in a new kitchen sink and cooker if I'm changing worktops anyway 👍🤔🤔

Agree with you, i wish i'd learned more when my husband was around. Luckily my daughter is as practical as he was, its just a question of catching her when she's not busy at work and tired out, or away for the weekend. I can still do some things, but anything that requires being on a ladder needs balance, of which i no longer have. 😂.

Yes... Al.... Everyday is a school day.... You are never too old to learn. Don't wag a day off school now...Ha.

I don't have a partner but I have been teaching my daughter (early 30s) how to do her own DIY as boyfriend doesn't know one end of a drill to another 🤣🤣 she was chuffed to bits on Sunday after she put some box shelves up 👍👍

My wife has just explained to me that my life insurance when I die will cover any diy repairs for the foreseeable future.
Not sure how to take that if I’m honest.
All the best 👍🏻

Same in 90% of the houses, my mam didn't realise what the old fella did around the house until he kicked the bucket. My wife just assumes I'll fix anything here but has no interest in learning anything, doubt she's ever been in the shed in 25 years (where he goes to play, she tells her friends 🙄).

Not just DIY bear in mind money and banking. My darling wife does all the money and accounts. I’ve no idea what to do if she ‘goes’.
Hope you get better soon.
