In Windows 11, you can create multiple partitions on a hard drive. If a hard drive partition has more free space and you want to create a separate partition from that, you can do so by shrinking the volume of that partition. However, the Shrink Volume feature does not work for some users because the targeted partition contains unmovable files. If you are in such a situation, this article will help you. This tutorial explains how to shrink volume with unmovable files in Windows 11.

This video is mostly only for shrinking the "C" (Windows operating system) drive. If you are trying to split a large Data drive that has unmoveable files on it, such as files that Windows has flagged as "coming from another computer", the tasks in this video aren't going to help. You will need to find every one of the "unmoveable" files and either unblock them one at a time in the File Properties dialog, or find a tool that can batch-unblock them.
