Learn how to do your first cutback turn on a surfboard. Many of us learn to surf on soft boards because they’re easy to catch waves on, but doing turns on them can be a rather tricky. We’re going to break down, step by step, how to begin turning your surfboard.

In this video, we’ll look at a turn done going backside (with your back towards the breaking wave) on a 9’2” soft top board. We will break down how to set yourself up for the turn, where to place your feet, and how you use your whole body to successfully turn a surfboard.

We hope these tips helps you start doing your first few turns!

I love that you mention front foot back first...most coaches forget the importance of leading footsteps with hips

At 1:23 am I suppose to stand like that if I’m left footed would it be turned around if I was right footed? Like the opposite

From what I have know, when you make a turn on shortboard/hard longboard are supposed to lean to the side and set rail, your video shows differently, does that mean leaning and set rail doesn’t apply on softtop?

When you’re turning your shoulders and head, do you also lean either on your toes or heels to help with the turn?

So the key to turning a longboard is to make it a shortboard
