There are people who are just gifted on knowing how to explain things in simplest forms.
I watched over 8 other videos and this one by far was the simplest to understand and remember while I am doing mine. Thank you sir.

Great video. I didn’t have the mini hooks so I simply took two finishing nails and clamped them in two vice grips and I bent the finishing nails to a right angle at the tips. Worked perfectly and the agitator popped right out.

There was grime on the mounting area of the agitator as well as the agitator cap. My washer must be a bit larger because there was I believe a dozen nuts holding the drum down. I could not loosen the nuts with a socket and ratchet nor my cordless drill. It was difficult because the drum would keep spinning while you’re trying to turn the nut. I could’ve got my impact wrench from the garage that I use with my compressor but my wife and I decided the cleaning was good and if we have an issue with odor next time we’ll do a complete disassembly.

For others doing the job the first thing that I did was remove the sump pump from underneath the washer and clean in the sink as well as scrub out the drain hose to the sump and from the sump to the wall drain. The flex hoses were very stinky, but not too grimy.

When we do a deep clean like Howard did, I’ll have my wife video me using Howard’s technique.

Outstanding video. I could not believe how much crud there was on the exterior of the drum... no more grime flakes on our clean clothes!

Thanks for your video. My LG washer is only 2-3 yrs old and we started to have pieces of calcium and brown deposit on our clothes. Disgusting. Your video helped find out how to remove the top part and then, the rest is quite easy. I had 12 bolts to remove the drum (vs 6 on your end). Now it's all fine. Under the drum there is a big iron piece where calcium was building up. I will now on use CLR regularly to keep this thing clean. Thanks!

My landlord got me a used one of these washers, I believe it sat outside because I did a tub cleaning before using it & when it was done the drum was full of leaves… I really hope this works, I don’t want to have to buy my own washer/dryer set just yet… I’ll update after I attempt cleaning with this videos help! Wish me luck 😂

You just totally demystified this intimidating washer!!! I think the smart drum thing scares a lot of people, but this is actually easier to take apart than the older washers. Excellent video! Thanks for posting.

I had to get one of my wife's earrings out from under the metal portion of the tub as it was in there grinding things up, this video turned out to be very helpful.
Thanks!

This video was very helpful!!! Thank you Howard!!!

A few things I figured out as I was following this excellent tutorial:

1: I was able to get the drum out by using paracord wrapped around three screws which I placed in a triangle around the wash plate close to the middle bolt. I put tension on the cord which was in a triangular pattern as I hit the center bolt with a heavy hammer ( do not hit it like you are driving a nail). It released after a few good hits.
2: after the wash plate come out, I noticed the same nasty grim vinegar

Thank you SO very much - your video was very helpful even though my LG model was a little different.

I’ve only had mine for 4 years and despite cleaning it with vinegar or bleach or Affresh tabs the outside of my drum was disgusting. A little elbow grease and a scrub brush and Method degreaser in pink grapefruit and the washer is clean again. It took me 1/2 an afternoon (stubborn bolts on the bottom!) but it was worth it. No more stinky washer.

Thank you Howard...great videos (this one AND your more detailed one...although you explained it well enough here that I didn't really need the more detailed one). You saved me HOURS of frustration and bloody knuckles...

So much more to cleaning this beast. You arr spot on how to disassemble it. The gray Ring around the tub is filled with chode water that needs to come out. The agitation plate is a 2 piece item that has stainless steel pressed over the plastic carrier that ypu will never be able to clean but holds nasty crap between it. The steel wheel at the bottom of the hold tank is nasty and shit grows on it. If you can remove it you are a Rockstar. If not get out the razor blade and a wire brush and you still won't get it 100% clean.
I took the steel tub out and pressure washed it and it's like new. Put it all back together put about a gallon of LAs Totally Awesome cleaner in the washer let it sit for 24 hours and then do the tank clean and it smells better. You will still get some floaters as stuff breaks loose. Good luck all. It's a shitty design for trapping crap you can't clean

Why didnt you actually show the removal and installation and the drum and everything before you cleaned it?

GREAT VIDEO with FANTASTIC INSTRUCTIONS! You are Da MAN! You have just solved the mystery on how to open this machine. Our machine has a lot of flakes and debris, no matter how many times I run the TUB CLEAN cycle. It does very little to alleviate this problem. I was thinking that the water pump was clogged and backing up instead of draining. I'm going to follow your instructions and hopefully this will stop the problem after I have it all cleaned. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Excellent video! We had a pen stuck down by the heating element under the tub. We could not find a manual online to figure out how to access the tub - so thanks much for the information!
