Currently at 8 months of 4 hours of Japanese a day, happy to see I can understand everything except maybe 3 words I hadn’t heard, it’s exciting to be on track!!!

You sound great, dude! You've really progressed a lot. I'm 1 month into my journey with Japanese and these videos are inspiring me to continue learning. I think it's so cool to see you go from 0 Japanese to your current level right now. Keep up the great work. I'll be looking forward to watching another video of yours soon!

I've made a commitment to learn Japanese this past summer after visiting Japan. You're videos are on of my major sources of motivation to keep pushing and not doubting the slow but definite progress.

Sorry if the grammar sucks on that, I'm only 2 months into my studying.

I stumbled on your video while I'm struggling to learn Arabic (MSA).
Your learning pace is amazing given that we have practiced Kanji for 9-12 years in school as Japanese.

Though I could not do the same way, your challenge is really inspiring. Also watching them is a nice change of pace as I'm having a hard time with Arabic vocabulary and verb conjugation.

If you have already basic knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, perhaps you should try reading books, articles or anything as many as possible using dictionary.

Reading with dictionary takes a time, but it would not be impossible task when you use E-reader like Kindle. And you could learn grammar or Kanji more easily in the context making your knowledge more solid and permanent.

By the way, as a learner, I always try to enjoy and appreciate the essence of the language. This “あいうえお の うた (Song of AIUEO)” was in my first grade textbook. I remember our class read it aloud and enjoyed the rhythm of Japanese :).

「あいうえお の うた」
あかいえ あおいえ あいうえお
かきのき かくから かきくけこ
ささのは ささやく さしすせそ
たたみを たたいて たちつてと
ないもの なになの なにぬねの
はるのひ はなふる はひふへほ
まめのみ まめのめ まみむめも
やみよの やまゆり やいゆえよ
らんらん らくちん らりるれろ
わいわい わまわし わいうえお

これからも、動画を楽しみにしています。
無理せずに、がんばってください!

Saw you in an Adam Neely video and can't wait to check out your channel! Learning a language from another musician is going to really make things easier

Just discovered your channel through Adam Neely's channel. Love this format of learning! This video is great! Might be even better if you put little numbers under the sentence parts as they appear, so you can look back at the whole sentence and see how it was built. Thanks for this!

I've been learning Japanese for a year, sadly the way I spent learning during that year was very poor, I studied only grammar and very small things that will help me in the future but were way too advanced to learn at that point. The amount of learns I knew what next to nothing since I haden't been retaining the words, rather I was just listening to them and repeating them, not making any sentences on my own. I started to watch a lot of dougen/matt vs japan and that has led me to where I am today. I've been studying the same way Japanese in A Year has for about 2 months and I'm able to almost fully understand what he's saying. It helps that I knew grammar, and tons of different small things before so I was able to go straight to advanced grammar/words.

I have a study abroad to Japan in 4 months time so I'm hoping by then I'll be in a confeterable place. I'll be there for 6 months so I'm hoping to be fluent by the end of the trip!

I truly wish I had enough will power to stick to doing at least 2hrs of studying per day. I have tried many times but end up with too many reviews and find it is very pressuring so I just give up and every time I do I find it harder to pick it back up.

hi shawn, just a quick heads up. You may have already come across this resource but if not, I think you will love it. It is a fellow youtuber called BENJIRO. he records his italki conversations, probably about perfect for your current level. the conversations are very clear and slowed down and has benji annotating important keywords and phrases. :D

I don't think there was a problem with the 2 は sentence.

wow great progress! (mind the pronunciation of しています because when you said "会話しています” is sounded like ”会話しっています") Anyway 頑張ってね!
