I absolutely love mine, but you're exactly right. This is not a machine for multiple people. It's a one-person espresso maker -- period. If you have that in mind going in, I can't imagine being anything other than extremely pleased with this machine.

This machine generates 9 bars of pressure and you need specialized coffee, a very good grinder, consistent tamping, and good water (many people ignore this part). It can pull a great shot, but you can't sacrifice anything I listed above.

Great review! I was glad you made it all the way through the espresso making rabbit hole and didn't give up. Aside from saving money over time when using any real espresso machine, you also save the environment from wasteful Pods.

Personally, I don't think the 9barista is overpriced. There are folks who spend hundreds and even a few thousand on high-end machines chasing their perfect espresso. They have pride in their craft. That's why this little machine has been such a success. It's highly portable and can deliver high-quality espresso. Yes, it takes a bit of practice to get the feel for your workflow. But that's always part of the experience. No, it's not meant for high-speed production, but it's perfect for myself being single and having small counter space. I live full-time in my 2018 850 Lance truck camper.
How many folks have a cabinet full of appliances that got abandoned, especially coffee machines? This little device has nothing to break or made in China crap. Plus, it takes very little space. So, it does have its attributes. Add up the amount of money you spend at your local coffee house. All of a sudden, this little machine pays for itself rather quickly.

I have a £130 hand grinder. The grind setting makes a huge difference.

Glad you didn’t give up on the first try and that you enjoyed the journey. Espresso is very finicky (and unforgiving). The number one investment anyone will recommend is a burr grinder, not for this machine only, but espresso making in general. It’s almost as important as the beans themselves :) You’re right this machine is not meant for entertaining a group of people, however once you get used to the workflow you can try warming your water while you prep your portafilter which will shorten your overall brew time to serve a second shot quicker :) congrats on your purchase!

Thank you for sharing your mistakes. I know a lot about coffee, but was still able to learn a lot from this video. Cheers!

Just got mine gonna unpack it tomorrow im so excited. I just wanted a machine that doesnt take up much space and makes my morning coffee delicious. Gonna stick to the aeropress when guests are here. I am allso getting a good grinder so I think im set for a good start into the world of espresso

Nice video and could you maybe talk about what those beans were that you said made a difference?

You bring up excellent points. I too like to share coffee with my wife in the morning and can't see the time and effort it would take to make both of us one. I also have on occasion, like you, have people come over.
Hopefully if the founder reads this he can make a triple shot version or even a double. Would be nice.

Thanks, really like the video. I have a 9Barista, and having the same problem, I can’t afford a 200 dollar grinder, I guess I’m stuck making coffee with no crema.

When it comes to espresso, grind quality is everything. Blade "grinders" are worthless for anything but French Press and cold brew. They just can't produce the constantly even grind that is needed. Whatever coffee maker you're using in the future, you've done yourself a huge favour in buying a better grinder.

Excellant review! If.i do get an espresso machine it would.probably be a larger counter top model. I love the gadgetryness of this machine but it seems awkward. Thanks again!

This was the best video, you ended up making your best coffee, though this is only for one, i very good machine can cost £700 & above, so having two of theses machines is not out of the park to get the coffee you want, i will buy one of these, just for me

I was screaming at my phone, grind is visibly way way to course.
Then I seen your grinder and was like, OMG might as well use a spoon and crush them 🤣. I should have known seeing the nespresso cups at the beginning. No coffee person touches that evil shit

What does “grind a little less, grind a little more” mean?… “grind longer”? I’m only at 9:27 so far, but am I going to find out you’re actually just using a bladed chopper rather than a burr grinder?

So many people don't know about coffee grinders... ❤

Ok so if you like good coffee and also the process of making it but don't want to wait for so long (understandable), why don't you get yourself a "normal" espresso machine? Once they are heated up you can usually make one espresso after another (of fill two cups at once). I do not believe that this costs a lot more (all combined - machine, energy, coffee) compared to these capsules but the coffee will just be way better.
You can get a good entry level machine for the same price as a 9barista, e.g. a Gaggia Classic Pro. Just keep the new coffee grinder ofc.
