Pocket Sieve for Determining Soil Particle Size

@Alex Korff and his colleague @Kim Smith talk about the pocket sieve, also known as the mini hand sieves set. This small kit is perfect for using in the field along with a small scale to determine soil particle size distribution. Knowing the soil’s grain size distribution is one of the most important characteristics since many agricultural and scientific properties are determined by the texture of the soil.

For example, particle size distribution has an affect on the ease of tillage, the capillary conductivity of a soil, compaction, etc. The coarseness of sandy soil is indicated on a map when doing soil survey work. In addition, this distribution determination is essential for the assessment of the availability of substances for the flora and fauna, the behavior of a substance in the soil and the determination of the quality of the soil.

This pocket sieve kit comes with 6 interchangeable sieve discs, with openings from 2.0, 1.0, 0.500, 0.250, 0.125 and 0.063 mm, as well as the lid, receiver, brush, and a storage bag.
