Australia, is at present trying to claim Manuka, as theirs - it's not, it's a relative of Manuka they're trying to flogg off to you . There's a street around the corner from me, lined with Australian 'manuka', aka, Tea Trees, different flowers, honey, leaves & bark .
Manuka is native to New Zealand, and is also the Maori word nameing the tree, which has a look alike cousin, with different flowers, but similar medicinal property's .
The reason the liquid gold is so expensive is related to the forest harvested, and testing free of a toxic plant called Tutin, which kills . If found, the frames of honey from that hive must be destroyed . To obtain the liquid, it must sit for months, as the lighter portions of the nectar rise up - this is where the money is, depending on the other test, for it's unique UMF number . Each set of hives can return very different numbers, and amounts of the liquid .
The 'creamed' appearing Manuka, runs from $nz 8:00 per 500 grm, depending on brand, up to $15:00 per 500grm pot .

Love Comvita Manuka Honey for immune and digestive support. Higher the MGO, the more the medicinal benefits from the antimicrobial activity.
