Linux will let you custom your OS to an unlimited degree, it will also allow you to screw up in ways that nobody has ever screwed up before which will make getting tech support somewhat difficult.

One of the first videos I watched when preparing to build my pc. I had installed mint on an old laptop due to stability issues with windows 10 and figured do the same on my pc. I installed ubuntu 16.04 on it and just started learning. Always wanting to do something else resulted in another project with much to learn. After awhile on ubuntu I had dealt with many issues that related to having a 1070 and decided to do arch. Complete change of pace but well worth it. Never an issue with arch unless I change something of course. After now it being 3 years I know the ins and outs of both my hardware and my software but of course still keep learning. I never regret choosing linux.

After what Microsoft did with windows 10, I fled to Linux Mint, and stayed there. Something I love about Linux is that there is no drive letters, instead everything is accessible from /

A: There are user created repositories for installing unspported software and
B: You can install unsupported software manually, but it is a bit more work than on windows since you will typically need to compile it with the make command which is not something your regular consumer would ever understand.
