I am excited about how wine has developing. I am now able to run newbluefx titler pro 6 on ubuntu 20.04 and utilize my 2070 super in my laptop. Additionally, davinci resolve and obs work. What used to be a problem when I started using Linux in 2005 now has been solved. It really makes my Linux desktop work flow excel.

I use Linux everyday for playing video games, work, entertainment in general. Practically everything.
I use Arch Linux by the way.

Indeed few walk the narrow path but I am getting my girlfriend to revive an old laptop using Linux so her younger brother can learn computing. Her family were considering a new laptop and I said, "hang on, that laptop can still be used. Bring it over and I will install Linux on it."

Great! Now I don't have to repeat myself when introducing Linux.

I'm fairly certain the International Space Station is running Debian with a little bit of Windows mixed in 👍

For me, I have a Linux box I made from a vista machine. After I got done, I poked around a bit, stared at it, then thought "now what?"
it was nice to have when my main computer went down. I knew enough that I was able to use it to order a new computer.
I want to do something with it other than just stare at it or watch it gather dust.

What Linux is used for?
Being able to trust my computer.
Being able to trust when I boot my computer that it WILL boot. (without interruptions)
Knowing that my disk encryption key isn't sent over the internet to the servers of Microsoft or Apple.
Knowing that if I wreck something, I can guarantee that I will get it back running without shady boot CDs.

You're leaving some of the fun ones out.
What does the US Air Traffic Control network run on?
What does Wall Street and pretty much every major stock market and exchange and financial market in the world run on?
What does the Intenet run on?
What does the world wide web run on?
What does NASA run on?
What does the International Space Station run on?
What does does Space-X run on?
What does Tesla run on? No, I don't just mean the cars...
What is the operating system in an Ohio Class nuclear attack submarine, that does navigation and communication and sonar and situational awareness and targeting for the torpedoes and targeting and fire control for the multiple independently target-able reentry module thermonuclear warheads run on? What does a carrier battle group run on, including the main aircraft carrier and the surface support ships and the attack submarines? What does most of the military industrial complex run on?
In fact, what does most of the US military run on?
Yes, a windows box can log into the US-mil as a dumb client, like an electronic whiteboard, but a Linux box (or laptop) can be a peer - a windows box is a dumb client...
What does the Pentagon run on?
What does the CIA run on? What does the NSA run on? What does (much of) the FBI run on?
Hollywood does a lot of CGI - what is almost all the CGI done on?
Have you had an X-ray? What does most medical equipment run on?
They're talking about respirators for COVID19 victims - what do you think those are going to run on?
The one thing Linux does not dominate, is desktop computers. The one and only reason why, is Microsoft and their marketing and their monopoly. Microsoft were facing the single biggest anti-trust case in the history of money when all that suddenly went away, about the time Bill Gates stepped down as CEO... Logical conclusion, the US government made him a deal - you add a back-door into Windows and give us the key, and we will stop this trillion dollar juggernaut. So Gates sold his shares and left as the richest man in history, and the US government owns a surveillance device on every desktop in the world. Because of this, Microsoft can tell every computer shop large and small that they must pre-install Windows on every single computer built and ship it that way or they will not get any copies of Windows at all, and their customers will be blocked from getting it. Let's see how long you can be in the computer business if you can't install any copy of Windows for any of your customers. This would be illegal anti-competitive behaviour from anybody else, but Microsoft is allowed to operate this way because the US government say they are, because they like having a back door into every desktop computer on the planet.
The only reason Linux doesn't dominate the desktop, is because the united states government does.

In 1994, I was using Slackware on my home PC. I talked it up to another "computer" guy at electrician trade school, and he vehemently opposed Linux, saying it would never amount to anything. I wonder where he is now.... I'd love to send him this video.
