Temperature-dependent sexual determination is a potent mix with climate change, and sea turtles are finding out why.

I remember some story where the eggs of turtles which were endangered by poachers were moved to safer beaches. The turtles returned to those safe beaches when they laid their first eggs. Can't we do that for turtles which nest on warm beaches? To just move them to cooler beaches?

I read an essay on a similar topic the other day by Gaia Vince. While it mentioned the effects of climate change on sea turtles, it spoke specifically about the significant threat of poaching, and how a small coastal town named Ostional has found a way to compromise between the needs of humanity and the needs of the local wildlife (olive ridley sea turtles). You should definitely check it out, it’s smart work!

The two parts of my brain while watching this video:
1. I need to do something to help.
2. Maybe the Gerudo have temperature-dependant sexual determination and the reason they only have one male child every 100 years is because they love in the hot Gerudo Desert

Could scientists not carefully move the eggs after they’re laid, like if the turtles always come back their original beech, then change the beech that is more likely to to have 50/50 male/female. If you did this for enough eggs they would hatch, making more turtles (male and female) and they would come back to said beech making more turtles and so on and so on
