I have to admire their guts to send it to you knowing that you will be honest. I have a GBA player as well as a Twilight hacked memory card to use the unofficial interface that supposedly has less input latency and I still find it better to use Retroarch on on my PC to play GBA on a TV and my phone with a XBOX One controller and phone clip to play portably. My phone has a way better screen than my GBA SP 101 model and I don't have to lug all the games around with me. GBA emulation is so good it makes these conversions really only for people who want a project because they ain't cheap.

I like the idea of a solder-less HDMI kit, but it is odd that they can't offer a proper resolution and just force a stretched 16:9 or a squished 4:3

It has bilinear filtering to mask the scaling issues with the aspect ratio.

The Retron sq works fine and is complete at about $80 which is more affordable than $110 for just a shell and components where you have to supply your own GBA.

the aspect ratio switch shows this product started life as something completely different.
The aspect ratio really should be like the original, not 4:3 and also not 16:9.

Almost seems like they're using the typical "generic" HDMI encoder that many clone consoles use. Even at 720p, the image is blurry. Almost wondering if using the A/V out with a RetroTINK 5x wouldn't result in a similar, if not better, output. In any case, how about a teardown video? Let's see if the chips inside are sanded down or left alone...

I agree with you wholeheartedly. The first one I got had a trace repair from the factory that was bad. I got a second one with ANOTHER trace repair from the factory, and it won't switch on unless I power cycle the GBA itself when the GBHDMI is turned on. Outside of the wireless controller board which is cool, it's a piece of garbage. I have my own video coming soon.

Based on the comments here, I agree this looks like a decent option for a collector who wants to play multiplayer with their primary setup, e.g. this plus their Woozle or Analogue product. How does the price compare to the Woozle consolizer?
