The technique is you need to add more icing sugar to your buttercream...so that you have firm and stiff flowers.

I have heard if u do a thin layer of frostin on top of the cupcake, it gives the flowers something to stick to a bit better.

I've heard that it's better to use these tips with American buttercream because it's thicker and holds the flower better on the cake and you can pipe higher flowers.

Using American buttercream does wonders when using Russian Piping Tips. The smooth texture and great taste are an added bonus 😋.

I love using these tips. I find you need to secure the icing then stretch them out while lifting and squeezing. This separates the petals. They also come to life with different coloured centres. Love your stuff!

I am glad that you tried them. Like previous comments, your icing needs to be stiffer, and it helps to spread a thin layer of icing. I love my Russian tips and use them with 2 or 3 colors. It also helps to start piping with the tip touching the cake and pulling away with quick release of pressure. Kind of like piping with a grass/hair tip. The technique of piping does take practice. I read that you have since mastered it and will look forward to the creations that may come up with. Absolutely love what you come up with. Keep baking on!
