She's cheating behind your back.
If you catch your woman cheating and you forgive her.
She now knows how you caught her so she will continue cheating only she'll get better at hiding it.
Your woman cheats or asks for a open relationship.
Your relationship is over because forgiving her for any reason is solid proof to her that you are a sucker and she don't need to respect you at all.

And this is why you end it when a spouse comes up with the open relationship BS. If they're not already cheating, they have someone in mind or are going to do it regardless. OPs sister totally missed it and OP was dead right.
And now the family is broken up, she lost her loving and caring husband and kids living with her. At least she can now eff around as much as she wants.
As a married man myself for 23 years i totally understand the urge to explore, but there is a massive difference to keep it to yourself or blow up your marriage. I choose to put in extra effort in my marriage. That was what she needed to do
