I like how the dog looked at him like ...don't drag me into this .... when he said "Aren't we Bo"

I work on small engines. I always shop vac then pressure wash first before the air gun comes out. I drain the gas tank. Plug the plug. Drain the oil. Its cost effective in the long run. Makes doing the rest way easier.

I like in the beginning when he said he was going to do this in record time. 3 days later

Thanks very much for this video. Very informative, appreciate the tips about tapping for mounting bolts and anti-seize on the pulley bolt and shaft. Doing a Kohler Courage swap tomorrow so I like to have a list of steps to make it go smoothly. Seems like it may be a little quicker to swap the exhaust pipes before dropping in the new one, leaving the bolts a little loose to make slipping them into the muffler easy.

Thank you very much for taking the time to put this video together. I found it very very informative. I will now attempt to put a Briggs & Stratton in my craftsman. I might not have attempted this if I had not had the opportunity to see your videos so thank you.

You can save even more time by just checking the oil before starting the mower

Thank you for making these videos. I have a craftsman dlt 3000 with a 20hp Kohler. It’s going on 15 years old but could be confused with brand new. Only thing major I’ve had to do to it (didn’t have to but I want it to last another 15 years) is restore the deck. I pulled it last summer and sand blasted it, primed and painted it, and replaced trundles and the glide plate that was starting to notch. Deck looks factory new now again. Can you tell I’m proud? Lol

Thanks you for patiently showing us how to do it. Kudos

Couldn’t figure out how to remove the motor with the pulley attached. Never thought to try and pull the pulley off from the bottom. Thank you so much.

Very Helpful, thank you. I am going to pay someone else to do it, but I wanted to know what it involved. Very clear and if I had more muscles and the right tools I would be tempted to have a go. But just a little old lady in Sydney, Australia! Don't know what they charge for a new mower in the U.S. but I have saved about $5000 by buying a new motor and the rest of the mower is great. Love Bo!

The least you could have done is power wash that thing first.

The tip on using a 3/8"-16 tap was crucial for me. Saved me a lot of agony. Took me about 2h(ish) to do the engine swap. Considering the B&S mechanic wanted $1200 to fix my mower and B&S sold me an engine for $850, it was a huge save for me. Now to rebuild the other one and figure out what's wrong with it.

Even today's Chinese mowers, snowblowers, etc., will last a long time if properly maintained and not too badly abused. I bought a cheap Poulan push mover about 9 years ago for $150 new. I've hit rocks and stumps with it many times and it still works great. I watch the oil and usually change it every year. I sharpen the blade with a table top power grinder. After sitting all winter, the Poulan usually starts by the 3rd pull. After that, 1st pull.

Ignore the trolls. Your video is fine. The only thing I worry about is the positive side of the battery should be disconnected to avoid the battery exploding if the Positive lead you removed from the starter became grounded by accident. The quick oil change fitting I would remove and use plug, makes oil changes messy, but prevents the oil from coming out like it did for your client.

I assume your client in your video must really like the tractor to spend that much ($1000 in 2017) on a replacement 24 horsepower Briggs and Stratton engine. I assume same engine but rated one horsepower less due to delta in how power was measured. I recently priced out how much it would be today to replace my year 2003 GT5000 lawn tractor and was astonished to see how much prices have increased over the years. I paid $1600 in year 2003 for the GT5000. Today to replace with Husqvarna 25 horsepower engine with 48-inch cut is $3600 via Lowes’s home centers if you opt for the Kawasaki engine and about $700 less if you opt for the Kohler engine for the same lawn tractor. Kawasaki engines and parts are expensive so I would opt for the Kohler engine if was my decision which engine to use as replacement for my GT5000.

My 2003 Craftsman GT5000 with 48-inch deck is remarkably like the lawn tractor you have in your video I think was made by Husqvarna. My tractor has Kohler Command 25 Horsepower CV730-0017. I live in southeastern Florida and like having so much power with a three blade 48 inch cut that does not bog down when the grass is high in the summer months.

The quick oil change fitting on my engine has opened and lost all the engine oil, but I heard the change in the engine sound and shut down before my engine was destroyed. When I bought the lawn tractor in year 2003, I had people tell me to remove the quick oil change fitting, but I did not listen until I nearly destroyed my engine.

I see many videos internet posted where the engines failed and broke piston rods because the quick oil change fitting came open at the wrong time. Most people part out the lawn tractors when the engines fail because the bits and parts are worth plenty. For example, the Husqvarna engine bolts in your video production are special and I just paid $6 each plus shipping.

The Husqvarna 15 mm spacer that goes under the big movable tension pully under the engine I misplaced and had to pay another $6 plus shipping or try to find a spacer at the hardware stores, so I used a socket as a spacer until the Husqvarna spacer arrived.
