Ableton 11 just announced! They added my most requested feature: Comping. Which is the ability to loop a section of a tune and have each take neatly organized so you can edit in your favorite section of each take! STOKED.

Man, I have learned so much from your videos! I knew there was something about you that I immediately clicked with, which is a feat, to stand out in a sea of clips, tutorials etc. I learned of your clean water charity work long after watching loads of your stuff and was so incredibly moved and impressed. Turns out that I'm a good judge of character, even if that character is on a screen!

Thanks for these posts! I always breathe a sigh of relief when I see that you've explained something about Ableton Live. :)

As someone who doesn't own nor have any experience with any other DAW, this and Linked Tracks are game-changing!

I’m typically GarageBand based but Ableton caught my eye like 4 months ago and now this!!!! It’s a must at this point 😎

Thank you SO much for being str8t 2 the point...love this vid, very easy to understand and you don't go far out and beyond to make your vids "complicated". Keep up the excellent work! 👍💯

I can see this being so useful with vocals, especially if you’re like me and nervous of adding your own vocals to your tracks at the risk of them sounding botched all the time. I can literally take this with me to a rehearsal room on a laptop and run with it on my own. 👍🍻

Hi there, is it possible to disable "Take Lanes/ Comping" in Ableton live? It automatically creates hundreds of hidden takes and my projects gets ridiculously huge!, any help would be much appreciated.

Ok this “comping” is 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I am looking forward to upgrading to 11
Very great video by the way

So the crossfade helps to avoid the “cuts” from different takes. On conping alone, I will update.

I wonder if you can apply a time-stretch and any editing tool or effect to any of the individually highlighted sections- but - as you comp?
or if that is something that can be done automatically as you comp, or via a midi controller mapped out knobs and faders buttons for ableton or comping and added ability that learns what you are doing, rythum, scales, chord progression, genre, key its in, bpm, and instrument type, and can offer up options as you play and record- options for instruments to add with your comping session, parameter controls on the fly and it gives you a preview of the options, like a bass one shot or corresponding lick to match your lick but in an instrument that you'd not usually go to and therefore open up possibilities that weren't there before because no one knows every instrument let alone what its called or sounds like, eg a daduk, or randomise instrument and fx option, essentially turning comping into a hybrid looping tool that can loop multiple everything in order to add to your track creatively as you play. snapshots of a recorded guitar tone that can be inserted, stretched nuanced copied and pasted over an audio section using knobs and faders instead of a mouse so much. Reproduced snapshots of effects that make up the desired sound the guitar can only produce and hope to be able to repeat by selecting the section's effects or anything applied with the optionto seperate the editing from the audio, also full integration mapped control via midi controller, handy for using the knobs and faders for all sorts of editing while you are recording/comping, in order to play the part on guitar over and over till you get the sound you want and spot on everytime you know- tweaking eq at certain parts of a lick to smooth it over as you are comping, all within the selected sections within that 2 or 4 bars.. whatever amount of the loop,
I know all of this can be done seperate from comping but isn't the aim here to make best use of our time by making the best DAW smarter.
