I've never understood the defense that western meddling was the cause of soviet failures. Okay, even if that was the sole cause, the USSR was attempting to do the same to us, so we have imperfect capitalism and imperfect collectivism both attempting to undermine each other, imperfect capitalism still came out on top. That means that the US had unprecedented wealth WHILE we were siphoning off huge amounts of it to fund economically costly and unproductive fights against communism. It's literally a vacuous defense, because it changes nothing. It means we would have been EVEN wealthier than the USSR if we'd not wasted so much time and money meddling and just spent the bare minimum on defense while they wasted they squandered the little they could spare to attempt to combat and undermine us.
