Dang girl. I wish the dr didn’t tell you it would be painful! You and I are similar, I didn’t have a Pap smear except the day before I got mine inserted. She was super calm and was saying it’s “no big deal” so I was extremely relaxed. I also took 1, 000mg ibuprofen beforehand. I felt cramps similar to my period which aren’t bad at all. So anyone getting an iud inserted, don’t forget your pain pills and just relax! If you’re uptight it’ll be worse. You can do it!

I've been on nexplanon for about 7 years now, I've gained 30-35 lbs, have frequent headaches/migraines, mood swings, acne flare ups, and I don't get my period for 4-6 months at a time and sometimes bleed for 2-3 weeks or very very light spoting. I'm thinking of switching to the copper iud because it's the only thing that is non hormonal. Wish me luck.

I’ve had 3 kids and the insertion was so painful, just a lot of pinching and poking and it took longer than I expected. In reality it was about 5 minutes and definitely worth it

I got my paragard in Nov! I had the same experience, I felt like I was going to pass out. Great video!

I think the experience is very different depending on your pain treshold and the nurse/physician technique. I didn't feel any pain, it was just a little uncomfortable when the nurse inserted the speculum, other than that it was pretty tolerable.

I felt a little cramp when she inserted de IUD and after that they were more intense that day. Even more uncomfortable that the insertion itself.

Can you give an update on how it is for you now? Will you keep it in or change options?

Copper IUD is my top preference but I am anemic and have a low red blood cell count (last time I checked anyways) 😩

I just got mine inserted today & it was the worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life 😭. I was was screaming 😭. I guess I have a low tolerance for pain . I’ve been on implant and, the shot. I did want something hormonal free. I just wasn’t expecting the pain of it. Plus, I didn’t take anything before getting it inserted.

I was on the nuvaring for a long time. It was nice. It worked great. The only problem I had with it was remembering to track when to take it out to have my period. I recently switched to Kyleena. It’s the same as Mirena except it’s a lower dose hormone. They did the insertion while I was on my period. My doctor says they prefer it that way. I bled for like a 7 day period and haven’t had any spotting or pain since.

Hey, I wanted to ask, did you experience any pain at the beginning while having intercourse?

I have used the combo pill, nexplanon, and the depo shot. I'm looking at getting an IUD now.

I have had both of the IUDs. I'll start with the Mirena. I loved it, but after a year I noticed I was having bad hot flashes during conversations.. Almost like it triggered social anxiety and I'm very outgoing. It does suppress your estrogen and that's why women don't have periods with it, but that does cause hot flashes, night sweats, etc... Also, I did get leg numbness off and on with it. It hurt a little going in and I was cramping for like an hour or two afterwards. The next day no pain and no periods for 3 years..

Next, I decided the hot flashes where to bad so I decided to go with the Copper IUd. It's so terrible. It was the same kind of pain as the Mirena, but OMG the cramps afterwards are terrible. The next day I was nauseous and my right legs was numb. It also triggered muscles spasms in both legs and blood clots and bleeding for 4 days that wasn't period blood. I decided to take this device out 5 days later. My uterus was already inflamed and hurting. This device is terrible. They say it doesn't have hormones, but I did lots of research. copper is toxic it binds to your thyroid and adrenal glands causing all kinds of hormonal issues and it trigger prostaglandins(hormone like compounds) and wbc to increase. Prostaglandins show up because of inflammation causing bleeding, and contractions aka bad cramps. This can't be good long term.

So I hated the pills and decided the least beast of them all would be the IUD. So I got the kyleena. I guess hot flashes is better than pills and a kid...
