To walk these ancient streets would be amazing, the architecture could definitely take you back in time!

I don't understand why people don't have more reverence at that place? that's like going to the Auschwitz. those were people! not statues... people should be leaving flowers, not taking pictures. 🌹

I was just there in May 15, 2023. It was surreal. An entire ancient town preserved. There was some sadness when seeing the body casts of the people who died. How they must’ve suffered in their death throes and it was preserved in volcanic ash. Nature is merciless and unforgiving.

My A.F. dad was stationed in Taranto, Italy 1960-63. We went there in 1961. From PBS shows I would say that they have uncovered a lot more since then.

Very interesting place. A lot of great documentaries about it if you can’t travel there. Also check out the ones about Herculaneum. I also wish some people wouldn’t make everything about them like this women who just needed to show herself off instead of appreciating where she is.

Imagine dying and then you looking down from heaven, and a bunch of people are taking pictures of your butt while you’re in a glass box

It makes you think, like, "Immediately afterwards, what did Neighboring towns or cities do ? Did they look for survivors ?
Or just forget about Pompeii & go on with their lives.
Second, imagine, hundreds of years after all that happened, being one of the Very First People to have Dug Up & Found Evidence of People being encased in the meters of ASH, & how Far Down did these people Dig, before they actually Found The First Signs of a Town, City, Village, Buildings, Structures, Farm Animals, Horses, Cows, Chickens, etc, then Finding People's Homes, with Those People "FROZEN IN TIME", FROZEN DOING WHATEVER THEY WHERE DOING AT THE LAST MOMENTS OF THEIR LIVES. MEN, WOMEN, CHILDREN, EVEN TINY LITTLE BABIES. IT'S ALL VERY SAD, BUT INTERESTING AT THE SAME TIME, CAUSE WE ALL HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS HORRIFIC TRADGEDY

It's hard to imagine that the Romans ruled the Mediterranean with an average height of 150cm

I don't feel like it's respectful to take pictures of the bodies. It's cool and all, but it was a tragedy, and the death of a whole civilization. It's something to remember history and the people who passed, not your social media feed

The body inside a see-through glass were not statue they were people after the mount Vesuvius eruption, many people died, and they were discovered
