How to Make the Energy Transition 10x Faster | Hilary Vogelbaum | TEDxBoston

The transition to clean energy is our third world-changing energy transition in the history of humankind.... and this time we are working to transition 10x faster than we have ever done before. To pull it off, we need a new model of investing in clean energy solutions. We must bring engineers, scientists, and others with non-traditional finance backgrounds to the investment table to work together with experienced investors. While this model has been demonstrated in early-stage venture capital investing, it is now time to bring it to the growth stage, where billions of dollars are ready to be deployed into already commercial, ready-to-scale energy technologies. Bringing together a diversity of backgrounds can be challenging -- to enable productive cross-pollination of ideas from science, engineering, policy, and finance, we must create a new way of training our next generation of clean tech investors.

Hilary has been dedicated to promoting systems-level solutions in clean energy ever since discovering the interconnectedness of energy and the climate crisis during a middle school research project. Her clean energy adventure so far has led her into corporate strategy at energy supermajors, securing revenue for large-scale renewable projects, hands-on energy research from the lab bench to computer models, creating net-zero communities in Scotland, and now investing flexible capital across leading energy transition companies.
