Bee hive log

I've always wanted to build bee boxes. Fascinating organism. I'll get to that someday. Did you know that the worker bees of a hive all share the same DNA?

I find it encouraging to know that the loggers are taking the additional effort to ensure that the bees are preserved (hopefully, anyways).
And in response to the comment that we're happy you post material that *you* find interesting rather than what the *people* demand...keep it up, because by and large, what you find interesting, I do as well. Maybe that's selfish of me, but to hell with what the rest of people want to waste their time with, hahaha!

Very cool! My wife and I stayed with our friend and her family in Romania last month. Her father is a bee keeper (and retired engineer). One glorious evening was spent merrily drunk on tsuica learning about his hives in broken English and Romanian. We're planning another trip so I can try helping him out; super excited!

Nearly a year later, I'm curious if the moving of the colony was successful. More than that, I'm curious if the loggers were successful in cutting the log apart to do so. Bees are notoriously opposed to their homes being "vibrated", whether day or night. Beekeepers only move hives at night simply because if they move thm during the day, the bees won't be able to find their way home. They take their bearings in the morning when they leave and that's the location they return to. Check out a bee yard. The hives are only a few feet apart and yet they find their own hive. If they attempt to enter the colony of a neighbor, they will find themselves outside and dismembered. Each colony is a single family (only one mother and one father, with the exeption of a planted queen, whicn is a different story entirely) and they don't take kindly to strangers.

What will become of all that wood? I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of those logs, haha.

just a note, #JohnPeters recently released a video where he learned that moving bee hives cannot be moved far as they may die looking for the original location. even a 10 feet distance may impact them.

I like how Pocket posts vids that interest HIM and is not a slave to the almighty YouTube subscriber money ( although I don't really know how 'almighty' that money really is).

Braver than I am. :P I was once stung by damn near an entire nest of bees so I wouldn't have done that. I wish they had realized the hive was there before cutting down the tree. - Heidi
