You make round bee boxes and stack them in layers, to get the natural/rounded design of the log hive, while also having it be easy to separate the different layers so you don't destroy everything.

There are waaay more than one drawbacks to these styles of hive. The largest of them being a complete inability to mitigate varroa, wax moths, hive beetles among others.

This can cause rampant and unhindered explosions in the mite and SHB populations and destroy every single colony in a yard.

this is not a win win situation for the bees and for the beekeeper. The bees are loosing a big amount of wax comb which will not be reused .

I'm surprised that the Japanese have not adapted the US beekeeping Apiary use of a "brood box" and honey supers.
It's much easier to manage a hive and still take your honey crop with minimal hive disturbance.
I don't like the new all plastic hives as they act to discourage the bees from staying in the hive due to the wasteful way the hive is engineered to collect the honey.
And you don't get all that great honey comb.

European nests are better. They have frames which allow for inspection of the hive and health of the colony with minimal disturbance. On top of that they basically follow the general design of a log...

False, if you drill a hole in the top put a queen excluder there then your bees will go up into another super and you get the honey from there.
