India was called the Jewel in the Crown of the British Empire because it was the core of British power projection; the entire British strategy was based on the supply lines to the Indian subcontinent. It was during this period that Vladimir Lenin famously said that India was the supply depot of humanity. He may have been exaggerating, but it does show India’s importance. The Indian subcontinent, which includes India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, is one of the most ancient places on earth. In fact, the Indus Valley, located in Pakistan, is one of the birthplaces of civilization. The Ganges river system in Northern India is an extremely strategic river system, comparable to the Mississippi river in the US. The Ganges Delta, located in Bangladesh, is one of the most fertile lands in the world.

The subcontinent is home to more than two thousand ethnic groups, unified by their religions and common values and manifested in three independent states. The largest of these countries is India. With fast- growing industries, India’s economy ranks among the top in the world. Its population, numbering around 1.2 billion, is still growing. In this analysis, we will take a peek at the domestic and foreign policy of India.

The primary need for a navy is for India to protects its trading routes. Their economy depends on those routes. The secondary need is to defend the country in case some other country has invasion plans. I want to point out that invasion is not the same as occupation. No foreign power could really occupy a country the size of India. But they could inflict major damage, overthrow the government and leave behind a puppet state. This kind of invasion scenerios existed during the Cold War.

India is really a unique culture. Even though India is so diverse ethnically and linguistically, the ethnic groups are still united as one country with a small exceptions. In other many other countries, minorities always clamour for independent especially when life is tough.

I am continually impressed with the ability the Caspian Report has in presenting heavily controversial ideas in an informative and neutral way.

Shirvan. It's not just 3 independent states, you forgot to include Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives (these along with the ones you mentioned are part of the SAARC), some even include Myanmar and Afghanistan (which is part of SAARC) as part of the subcontinent.

There is no war going to happen between India and China or India and Pakistan in this era. Only Cold war will happen between rulers for the sake of their own political gains.

All these countries knew very well that they are all capable of of facing war. Their military strength is good. China is more powerful than India, but USA who is more powerful than China has good diplomatic relationship with India, and will support India for sure. In another case, China has good relation with Pakistan than they have with India which is plus point for Pakistan. If a war outbreaks in the subcontinent, then lots of people will die, leaving a broken economy to all above countries.

Bro, Mughals didn't rule southern parts :)

I usually like your videos, but this one has some serious flaws. (1) Are you seriously stating that the Mughals did not use force to rule? You might want to read the official court records of the Mughal rulers. Fortunately, they thought their use of force was "God's work", so they maintained meticulous details. (2) The contemporary political scenario is only a very small part of why India supports Tibet. Historically, Tibet always had extremely strong spiritual and cultural ties to India, and Indians see the Chinese annexation of Tibet as illegal ... not because the average Indian cares about who rules Tibet, but because Indians empathize with the spiritual lineage of Tibet, and find it hard to tolerate the ongoing obliteration of that culture. (3) You say India was historically always highly fragmented. Sometimes, yes. But there have been empires as large as modern India (in terms of land area) which have lasted for 80-90 years or more (e.g. Mauryan empire). That is longer than the age of modern political India!

India doesn't support Dalai lama because they want to use Tibet, Dalai Lama along with most Tibetans were seeking refuge when china invaded Tibet. LIke most TIbetians India has housed many Refugees from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal even Pakistan and Srilanka. No questions asked.
