Lol I literally felt it when they said, parents only care about hours of study not efficiency. In about 2017, when during the month of Feb I had to prepare for my final exams, I had been focused on my studies previously and I was so ready that I literally needed 15-20 max 25 mins to properly revise 4 chapters in various subjects. I would do 4 chapters but still my parents would be like, why haven't you studied. I'd tell them I can explain the entire chapter and recite all the answers if you ask me to, and I even proved it on multiple occasions, but still everyday I would get scolded for not studying just because my parents didn't believe I did 4 chapters in 15 mins, according to them that must equate to 1.5 hours at all costs. I didn't have the same efficiency later, but still I am good at studying so I can comfortably prepare a chapter in 10-15-20 mins but when I take a break after doing a long chapter, I get scolding for getting up too fast. Always in my younger years my parents would prattle on and on about sitting power, about being able to study for 3-4 hours with minimal breaks, but never about studying efficiency. Also if I have maths questions to show then my parents are willing to believe I studied, but if I say I read the chapter and understood it(which is harder than maths in certain cases depending on te chapter and subject) and now I understand it well enough that I can answer any question in my own words, I would get a lecture about how more and more maths is necessary to ace the exams and I should do maths. No wonder there is a stereotype in the western world that Indians are good at maths, other subjects ki koi aukaat hi nahi maths ke Saamne in our households.
