This was the best example of showing a character is smart, not just telling us she’s smart.
I know nothing about fashion or fabrics, but by showing us Elle showing knowledge about the stitching and asking questions, we already know that she doesn’t just like clothes.
Oh no, she loves them and appreciates the work behind them and the choices the creators made when creating the garment.
And once the clerk lies, you see Elle stop for a moment to think before showing her hand and telling the clerk that the stitching will not work with this type of fabric and that she remembers it from last year’s collection. Wonderful writing and acting.

What I love about Elle in the scene is that she didn't go off on the employee. She didn't insult her and didn't raise her voice (even though the salesperson deserved it for her prejudice). Elle just called her out and then went about enjoying her day with her friends. Elle Woods is pure class.

Elle wasn't a dumb blonde, she was just a bit naive and sheltered; however, as soon as she got exposed to reality, she adapted quickly and thrived. BTW, Reese is indeed a GENIUS! She created a book club website and made a rating system for readers. She then created a publisher warehouse where she had writers sign an agreement that she got first dibs on movie rights. SO then she kept track of the book reviews and approached the writers of the best performing books and offered them reasonable movie rights deals. That's where she gets the movie ideas she produces. Pretty much a guarantee they'll be profitable since there's already stats that the story is desireable by the public.

When this movie came out, my blonde blue-eyed 2nd grade sister told our parents that she was going to be Elle Woods one day to prove that blondes can be beautifully dangerous in court. This year, she graduated George Mason Law School wearing a hot pink pair of heels, and passed the Bar Exam this October. She specializes in cyber security law for Homeland Security. She is wicked smart, the most stylish person I know, and is a bull dog in court. I'm so proud of my little sis. ❤
