Great Tutorial. Iam the First person who liked the video. However, I have a question for you, Can you help me? Please if you can. How to Set Up Synology in the way i want. For instance; My model 1621s+
I want to connect an Ethernet cable from my router to my Synology, and then I would like to take another Ethernet cable and connect it to my PC from that Synology NAS to continue sharing the internet. In simple words: Home Router -> Synology NAS-> to PC in order to have both internet and direct connection between my PC and NAS.
How to use NAS to get the Internet to my PC with using an additional switch?

Thanks.

I have mapped the drive, the letter was taken from the system so it looks like it was created but it does not show in 'This PC' folder. When I type IP number it takes me to that folder. What has happened?

Just came across your video but how can I do this when I only have a single Ethernet port on my DS214Play? Right now, my NAS is connected to my wifi router via the Ethernet so it's not possible to configure for direct connection to my laptop. Any ideas how I could do this on my DS214Play?

Looks like part of what I need, thanks for the tips. I have connected my NAS directly to my Mac Pro with the LAN cable ; for some reason, I can't log into my DSM, the Synology assistant doesn't find the NAS at all nor does the web search. The Finder does find the NAS but every file transfer I try stops after a few minutes and the connection gets lost. I have written numerous customer service tickets to Synology which are all blissfuly ignored. I am at a loss to proprely connect Mac Pro and NAS and resume backing up my files... Don't know quite where to start. DSM414J and Mac Pro won't communicate more than a few minutes and then it's over.

Great video. I am interested in purchasing a Synology NAS for local purposes (storage/mirroring only, no internet connection). Is it considered good practice to shut down the NAS along with the PC at the end of every evening, or is best practice to leave it on and running?

I have a Mac Mini M1 arriving, I would like to know how can I directly access files from a Synology to Mac Mini M1 without the need of internet or something, is it possible to just plug a USB3.0 cable directly from Synology DS920+ to USB 3.0 of the Mac Mini?

Thanks for the good explanation. But one question remains: does this work with all Synology DS NAS?

Sorry if my english is bad, just trying to understand this better. Once we config the NAS and connected to the PC, can we unplug the cable that connects to the Internet? Leaving it like a plug and play or 'external hdd' that is connected to the PC for daily use? Hope someone can help me with this.

Very informative video! Just one question: when you set the static IP of the NAS (through the PC obviously) it means the PC is connected to the internet. Following you perform the PC static IP configuration and then you connect the LAN cable of the PC to the NAS. Does this mean that internet connectivity is lost from the PC? Which I don't mind, as long as it can still access the NAS through the ethernet cable. On the other hand, if the PC is connected to the internet via WiFi and you connect the NAS directly with the LAN cable I assume we retain both the internet and (direct) NAS connectivity, right? The question is, is it mandatory to have internet connectivity all the way (I mean even when we directly connect the PC to the NAS via the ethernet cable) so that this setup works?

Thank you in advance!
