Riding My Electric Bike to Work in China
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My YouTube journey began with a humble video shot on my iPhone 6 as I navigated my neighborhood on an electric scooter, capturing the essence of Xiaolan, a small town in Guangdong province. The challenge of filming without a stabilizing feature meant holding the phone in one hand while steering with the other, aiming to showcase the everyday scenes of my route. Despite its similarities to many Chinese towns, Xiaolan held unique charms, especially the serene rides along the canal, surrounded by the sights and sounds of local life.

These explorations revealed homes of varied ages and conditions along the canal, some appearing ancient despite their relative newness, blending with the historical texture of the town. Despite the occasional foul scent from the canal, the beauty of the tree-lined paths and the aged, yet characterful boats, created a picturesque, albeit imperfect, setting.

Navigating narrow paths and encountering unexpected obstacles, such as full-size cars, added to the adventure. The open doors of local homes offered glimpses into the lives of residents, fostering a sense of connection despite the barriers of language and culture. The architectural beauty of arched bridges and the warm interactions with locals underscored a feeling of belonging, despite the curiosity my presence often sparked.

Reflecting on the making of this video, I recognize its rawness mirrored the beginning of my journey into content creation, filled with humility and a readiness to embrace the unknown. This video, devoid of any pretense or polished skill, captures the essence of discovery and the value of unfiltered experiences. It serves as a reminder of the beauty in simplicity and the power of starting anew, highlighting the adventures that lie in the everyday and the connections that enrich our understanding of the world. This initial venture on my bike through Xiaolan wasn't just a commute; it was a journey into the heart of a community, a snapshot of life in its most genuine form, and a step into the vast possibilities that awaited.

Cute area along the canal would look so much better if they put some paint on the buildings and added window boxes with flowers or had small flowering trees or shrubs along the Route... it could be so magical looking with a little bit of effort

Very cool video! I'm not sure what you work as, but I used to want to become an English Teacher in China. With the requirement of a Bachelors now I decided to just get a degree in Accounting for here, I start college very soon!
