Taiwan Pitch Meeting - or why China won't & can't invade Taiwan.

Comedian Ryan George’s “Pitch Meeting” series, which was the inspiration for this video can be found here:

China will not invade Taiwan because it does not have the military force to conduct a successful invasion. Amphibious invasions are extremely difficult, and Taiwan has had years to prepare.

Also note that the Urban areas and mountains of Taiwan give a distinct advantage to a Taiwanese insurgency.

Just a historical correction, the government that fled to Taiwan wasn't democratic. Taiwan turned democratic during the 1980s. Until then she was a 1 party state.

The difficulty of invading Taiwan would be like on the same level as invading Switzerland and, in addition, access is limited to a few beaches that would make Omaha beach look like a cakewalk. In most places, those mountains reach right to the ocean, forming sheer cliffs.

Formosa was a candidate for invasion by the Allies In 1945. Admiral Spruance, appreciating the difficulty, quickly vetoed the idea and chose Iwo Jima instead.

Slight correction. Taiwan wasn't a democracy until 1996. It was a dictatorship after the civil war till then. So the democratic forces didn't retreat, it was the nationalist forces.

One note.

"Democratic" forces isn't exactly how I would describe the RoC government. They were a military dictatorship and would torture and kill anyone accused of being a PRC collaborator.

They got much better over time, but back in the day it was very hard to say which side was worse.
