Back in the mid 70"s ( I think) My family took a 7000 mile Grizwald style road trip from Buffalo NY to California with my parents, me, and my little brother. Pontiac Catalina Station wagon. Stopped to visit the Corn Place on the trek back home. Think it was on a weekday so wasn't very crowded. Dad bought himself a small set of steer horns inside. Standing on the corner across the street to get a good look we spotted flames on the right side coming out of a small dormer with a window as best I can recall. Dad ran back inside to tell someone. Guessing they thought he was nuts because some guy followed back outside to check it out. But quickly hauled ass back inside to call the fire dept when he saw the flames. They came pretty quick and had the flames out in no time. One of the best stories I had to tell of my vacation trip when we got back was my dad saving the corn palace from burning to the ground.

Looks a lot nicer than when I saw it back in 2000! Stayed at a campground in Mitchell, the showers were creepy! LOL

My Dad grew up used to go every time we would visit the Grandparents!!! There used to be a creepy doll museum across the street in Mitchell!! Love your videos :)

I heard you describe the corn palace and could only think "what the hell is going on with us, collectively, as a species?" It is simultaneously the most epic thing and also the weirdest. (An aside... a town in Japan does rice paddy murals with a few different rice species, and it is actually wicked cool and three dimensional. It's pretty rad.)

I was there the summer of 2007 and the whole floor of the basketball court was filled with a giant gift shop. I looked around at stuff for probably a half hour and ended up with a refrigerator magnet that is to this day proudly displayed on my refrigerator.
