In 1892, residents of Mitchell, South Dakota, wanted to demonstrate how fertile South Dakota soil was. The Corn Palace was their community creation.
Free guided tours are available in the summer and by appointment for groups at other times. The Corn Palace also hosts sports, music, and other events throughout the year.
The Corn Palace Festival takes place in August.
