Do we live in a world of cotton wool where children are not allowed to climb trees, graze their knees and connect to nature?

A lovely place to go for a walk, little Joe looked like he enjoyed himself very much, its good for little kids to get them out and about in nature surrounded by trees and countryside, must be good for their development.

When my daughter's dance rehearsal schedule (for competitions) didn't take over Sundays we'd go have Sunday lunch at my parents and as soon as my Dad has his post lunch snooze & began snoring I would take my kids out for a nature walk around Angmering...exploring fields and woods while I taught them the names of the various wildflowers & trees. Years later when my daughter was at Dance college she & my son would venture off on their own on their own nature walks...so important for kids to be connected to nature!

That made me very homesick. I was born in Lancing in 1940 (during an air-raid!) and have walked that track many, many times. A lot of the trees were blown down in the 1987 hurricane, and it's good to see how green everything is now. I don't think I shall ever see it again, so the video was a treat.

That was a real treat . Lovely to see Julia, Joseph and Richard, just enjoying the countryside.

Lovely video both of you.
I have a cousin in North Lancing and when I saw her last, we walked up to the Downs and the views up there are stunning.
Julia you always look good in your co-ordinated clothes, lovely.
Richard you're right, kids need to get out and see nature, much better than playing computer games!!

Loved the little fellah's attitude, and Joe was nice too, out with mom and granddad enjoying the countryside!

My 4 year old nephew Arthur is inquisitive, he stops on walks to make friends with all the wildlife and names it, picks flowers for his mum and it really reminds me of my own childhood where every walk was a fun lesson and started a lifelong interest in nature. I had a grandad who took me birdwatching, a school teacher who encouraged me to press flowers and name them all. It’s those who encourage us, who help us to love and care for the nature around us. I hope I become one of those people for Arthur.

That was lovely. What a coincidence! A small group of us intended walking there yesterday but as it was so hot we retired to the summerhouse to chat instead. We would no doubt have bumped to you 3 which would have been great.

Sure fired way to spot an Elm. All Elms have a leaf that joins its stalk such that the two halves attach asymmetrically to the stalk.

I’m exceptionally lucky that I was brought up in the countryside around Horsham. I’m also lucky that I was in the last generation (I’m 40) where kids were allowed to go and play on their own or with mates outside.

I had friends at school who were from the inner city and they had never seen bluebells - I remember how transfixed they were by them when we went on a scout camp! They also soon found out what nettles are 😆

Congratulations on 20, 000 subscribers!

Thanks for the video, Richard, Julia and Joe. Very interesting (as always) - my OS map helped to fill in the gaps. Just what every child needs - the freedom to run amok and get dirty (and build up their immune system!).

The title said Kids so I thought we may have had young Elijah joining us today as well...but I see it referred to the "grown child"!😏😁😉
It was a bit hard to take you you seriously though Richard, when at one point you had a toddler hanging from each ear!!!🤣🤣🤣 Loved seeing our Tree Sprite back in action!💜🧚🏻‍♀️

A lovely video. Loved the shots of Julia up the tree! Gosh, I remember the fairy tree video, how time must have flown since then. Here's to many more videos of the three of you to come.

I really don't know any parents who don't let their kids play out side and from what I've seen around here the kids are quite adventurous. It think there are too many politicians making up false stories to further their agenda of criticizing what they call the "nanny state". These are the same people who bemoan kids not playing outside but refuse to finance playgrounds and parks! If we don't set aside land now for kids in the future it will be too late after the land is built over. We need to shift our focus away from development of commercial establishments to developing a better, natural, quality of outdoor life.

We're with you Richard.

It's something about learning what it is to have control and to chose to explore the nature of things.

Viva waste grounds and accessible woodland.
