The most recent update to the GP27U has finally brought HDR and VRR support, along with a range of various other fixes, Can’t wait for the update to this video!

Not sure if Coolermaster would be pleased at a product of theirs being "hotly anticipated"! 😁

Firmware update released 11/24/22 and Read Me from 11/28/22. Reported changes 1) Adaptive Sync and Local Dimming can work together; 2) Fixed KVM signal input issues; 3) More color adjustments in all picture modes; 4) Adaptive Sync available up 160Hz.

Just found the download on Cooler Master's GP27U product page under Firmware.

I love your HUB Essentials checklist. Well done 👍! The best overall product summaries on YT.

This monitor's colors are really impressive. 95+ DCI-P3 was a distant dream just a couple of years ago, with monitors well over two grand that could allow this.

Definitely an early-adopter sorta thing. I hope the monitor is a turning point in miniLED technology, turning it from a very expensive and premium feature into a more consumer friendly and everyday thing.

All the other options you listed that are nicer are also curved or huge. This monitor really seems to be nice set of features just needing a firmware update. Hopefully they can add some more processing power to fix the inability to go above 144hz with HDR, fald, and vrr.

This and the tempest gp27q (1440p $500 version) are looking very competitive for hdr gamers.

Great hardware needs great software to achieve all it can do. Fortunately, we have great reviewers like Tim to let us know when something isn't quite up to stuff. Looking forward to a review of the firmware update! Here's hoping they can solve the issues that hold this monitor back from being truly phenomenal. Thanks, Tim!

Hopefully they can pull off VRR with HDR together, because that would make this a very tempting product... I don't think I could personally do without VRR these days.

The mentioned firmware update is actually availablie since yesterday (2022-11-25). Would it be possible for you to check it out? That would be great!

Really glad reviewers like you are here to hold their feet to the flames. I would have probably bought this on an impulse and then immediately regretted not having HDR + VRR for gaming. It's such a shame about OLED and burn-in, especially for people like me who work with a lot of static content many hours a day (software development).

I appreciate the work u put in all these reviews, I usually change/upgrade monitors every 2 years and before I pull the trigger on any of them, I always come back to these videos for the reviews and best part by that time the price has come down, I recently purchased the g7 odyssey on sale and it was after coming back to that video. So again thanks for all the work u put into these reviews!

Great review and I absolutely love that you will be re-reviewing this in the future after firmware is updated. To me it doesn't even have to be a full 20-30min review, as long as I know you have checked all that is being checked here and having a 5-10min summary (unless you want a full length re-review ofc).

Thanks for mentioning that gamma in SDR with local dimming is broken, hopefully, this gets fixed with an update. But doesn't this apply to a lot of other FALD monitors as well? For example, Samsung forces a setting called 'Dynamic Contrast', which screws gamma as well. But in the reviews of the Neo G9+G8/G7, you didn't mention this at all.
Also, how should an effective SDR local dimming algorithm operate? In my opinion, the screen should have uniform brightness and only utilize its zones to dim darker shades and black to enhance the native contrast of the panel.

Watched this on my own GP27U lol. Yeah I understand why you can't recommend to buy right now, but I got at MSRP and for me it has all features I want, I love the color gamut support and calibration potential + brightness, it looks fantastic, plus usbc connection with power delivery to my work laptop is very nice feature. I don't game with HDR on anyway so VRR issue isn't that relevant to me but will still try out the firmware when it drops. I am just hesitant to go OLED for my desktop use due to burn in concerns, so this Mini LED felt like a great compromise for my use as a workhorse monitor that can do occasional gaming and HDR media, and I am still quite happy w/ my purchase

Awesome that it's getting re-tested later with the proper firmware. This one seems interesting in so many areas but imo it shouldn't even have shipped without a VRR/HDR compatible firmware.

I cannot wait to see how the Acer Predator x32 and the ROG PG32UQXE turn out to be. Hopefully soon we will see a release finally.
