Metric vs Imperial isn't just a matter of convenience. I work for a German company that owns an American subsidiary. The confuses of imperial vs metric is a pain - as is the fact that I have to carry two sets of tools, one for the European bits of the machines I work on - and another set for the American bits.

Don't forget NASA lost a multi gazzillion $ satellite because the programmers got confused over feet and metres..

The imperial system is way past it's sell by date.

Nobody said that changing over wouldn't take some time and effort. Australia started in '66 with decimal currency, then the rest of the measurement system (volume, weights, speed/distance etc.) from '75 to '85. It took time and caused a little disruption, but overall it wasn't as hard as predicted.

While I still have a couple of hangovers from the imperial measurements, my kids are totally free of it and don't care about inches - or fractions thereof - or miles or gallons.

It's coming

around 16 feet. Just remember that meters and yards are close to each other and there are 3 feet per yard.

mm = millimetre 1mm = 0.03937inches
cm = centimetre 1 centimeter = 0.393700787 inches
m = metre 1 meter = 39.3700787 inches
km= kilometre 1 kilometer = 39 370.0787 inches

mm are used in metal work every thing there is done in mm dose not mather how big the number gets

cm is used in wood building but fine woodworking also every thing in mm

m is about 1 yard more of an esmetinc thing

km is used as speed and longdistens like your mile

please al go to metric :D

Imperial measurements are like old British money - 12 pence to a shilling and 20 shillings to a pound.

Agree. Metric. At least start putting metric on the tape tools.

I hate imperial measurements, way too much fractions of an inch, with metrics it is much easier.
