I really want to make sure that you are aware of the fact that you can share this information, knowing that you don’t have to and can charge people because of your credentials and skills of being a professional… please know that it is not going unnoticed and that it is so appreciated. We are in a time where people are not honest, scams and theft are a serious issue and to have someone who shares this knowledge because they are passionate about what they do and want to help others is a beautiful thing. Thank you for all your hard work in sharing your incredible knowledge about this.

Using your strategies today I found an image of a Virginia marriage document from 1831 that verified the name of the bride’s father. I also found a document that verified that a third great grandfather was born in Dutchess County, New York in 1807. Up to now that had been a hypothesis. It also mentioned where he was residing on June 30, 1886. Very exciting and useful information.

Thank you for this very helpful advice. We are having to put the work in manually rather than getting them on ancestry any more despite the fact that we surely previously paid for them in our fees. We should all be asking ancestry why we don’t have easy access to these records any more.

Thank you SO MUCH! I have been frustrated over this! When I first researched something, the image was there and it solved one family mystery. BUT when I went back to it, it was gone. You have just solved another mystery... greatly appreciated!

I was just doing some research and decided to do something different. I was looking for some extended family (my 2x great grandfather’s sister) and this is not a family line of Acadian descent, the surname is Hanks. It is the same family line as Abraham Lincoln’s mother, Lucy Hanks. While looking for this person, it doesn’t pull up mostly Louisiana records and I was able to see records from other states. I was surprised by how much easier the records were to read and how it’s so fascinating to see Wills and probate records. My grandparents are the first generation that was able to get an education and my parents are the first ones that their native language was English. My great grandparents and beyond were never able to attend school and never knew how to speak English, so I am not used to being able to look at records and understand what they are saying. I have heard you comment about how you can learn a lot from the wills and probate records and I felt like I was lacking in my ability to understand how to read them properly. But it’s so different than other places and I have to be more easy on myself

Getting an image is so important to verify indexing. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve found indexing mistakes and corrected them, or found more information on the image. Family Search seems to be reducing access to images when you review a record hint, which I find unfortunate.
