I wish the singers' voice was brought more to the front. All in all a lovely piece though.

My father was in the Royal Navy. As a child (cough cough, decades ago) my brother and I would be taken down to see my father’s ship sail in. Even now, seeing a ship come in with everyone lined up on deck moves me to tears.

Totally agree with your comments, even as a Brit I'd like to have seen the lyrics on the screen too, hers was not the best voice but still emotive....the secret Santa plan is a wonderful thing to do...bless you 💖💖💖

That was goosebumps and tears. Seeing the sailors coming back to their families, especially small children, had the biggest impact on me. 😭 Being with your own children is a lot to sacrifice. A couple of years ago, my local butcher decided to close earlier, at lunch time on Saturday, because he felt he was missing some of the best time to be with his children. He saw them every day, but he wanted _quality time._ I didn't hear any complaints.

I feel lucky that I found you late 2020. You helped keep my spirits up during lockdown. Luckily YT recommended one of your videos when you started on UK reactions. I'm lucky your DNA looks British, otherwise I'd never have got to know you (even the little I have). However, I don't watch you because of your DNA. I subscribed and watch most of your videos because you are a good Human Being, sharing your time with us. We get honest, genuine reactions from a good hearted 'cousin'. I'd very happily meet you in the UK, welcome you, and demonstrate to you my love and respect by singing the only song I associate with you, "F*uck You". 👍

I hope your family gathering was happy and made many good memories for everyone.
Take good care of yourself and your loved ones.
Best Wishes to You and Your Family. ☮

It's not a song, it's a Hymn!

Ah yes. Sam Mcindoe, one hell of a voice. She features a lot in the Mountbatten Festival of Music, usually alongside Cpl Kirsty Haines and Cpl Hannah Smither. How she reaches those higher notes without effort always impresses me.

Personally mate as a proud Brit and a British Patriot I loved the performance of our heroic female Royal Marine who sang this patriotic song, she did a fantastic job and we British love everyone who wares the uniform of His Majesty's Armed Forces. I love our military who are the best in the world, the best trained and the best lead. The Royal Marines are just amazing and even the band and their personnel who sing are loved and respected in the UK. The female Royal Marine who sang is better than many professional female singers including those from America. I had relative's in the British Army, the Royal Air Force and in the Royal Navy so I as a British Patriot have a job to stand up for any members of our fantastic, incredible, amazing, loved and respected British Armed Forces. I am one of your British subscribers who respects you and is a fan of yours but I have to stand up for any criticism towards my beloved UK, my fellow countrymen and our Armed Forces.

to me this is our national it is far more appropriate than a song about the monarch and religion, the amount of crap we have to deal with in our country due to two political parties both of which fuck us over in different ways and yet we never falter the love for our country keeps us going

I think we all know that the music is by Gustav Holst and was written as part of the Planets Suite. I didn’t know about the words so looked them up. They were originally a poem by Sir Cecil Spring Rice who was UK ambassador to the USA during the First World War and who was instrumental in persuading Woodrow Wilson to abandon neutrality.

George G the male singer is such a strong, masculine, confident singer (and he's poster boy material too) This version is so atmospheric with the misty foggy background too. Cheers

I don’t know if you do this in the States but theRoyal Navy does a thing called PACAS ( parents and children at sea, it used to be called lads and Dads )
Iv been lucky enough to do it twice, I sailed back from Lisbon Portugal and again from Gibraltar on board a a Royal Navy Frigate
My son was coming back from 9 month tours of the Gulf, basically any crew member can invite a family member of the same sex to live as they do and watch what their job involves for the last part of the return trip . Spending a night or 2 with with a ships company in a port on the lash ( getting drunk ) is bonkers
My son is in the Fleet Air-arm so he fixed it for the parents of his crew to have a ride in a fully war prepared helicopter, just wow non other words
When we sailed back into Portsmouth with the whole crew in their best uniform stood to attention on the side of the ship is very very moving, seeing the family stood on the quayside going bonkers waving flags and the Marines Band playing is something I will never forget

I don't know why but this rendition made me think of the Falklands conflict where of course many did pay the final sacrifice. Still what I love about the hymn is that it never mentions Britain and the second verse is about the higher spiritual realm. So I love the hymn because of how spiritual it is and how inclusive it is - anyone can sing it and think of their own country and the higher calling that unites us all.

You can watch Luke Evans (an actor) sing this at the Remembrance Day Service at the Albert Hall.

Side Note: The shoulder title "Royal Band" is the successor to the Royal Yacht Band which served on Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia until it was decommissioned. When the Queen travelled abroad on Britannia the band would accompany her and play concerts wherever they went.

Love this song. There's a good video of Winston Churchill's funeral with this tune. (YouTube)
You are right about the clarity. Others are on youtube at Royal Albert Hall and Westminster Abbey with choir + audience participation.
