Loneliness Now a Major US Health Threat - Top Psychiatrist Says, 'Go Back to Church'

The U.S. Surgeon General says loneliness is now a public health threat so severe that it's on par with smoking and obesity.

For far too many Americans, loneliness can become a painful secret, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, M.D. said, revealing that he experienced this firsthand.

"This is an issue so many people struggle with in the shadows because they feel ashamed. And that was true for me as well," he told ABC News.

Started attending Bible study class years ago. Lonliness disappeared. Haven't felt loneliness in at least a decade.

Now i have 3 real friends.

Im not religious.I dont go to church, but i do believe in god.

Connect the younger generation with the elderly, both are painfully lonely . Encourage young people in service ministry, share your home with the lonely . “ He sets the solitary into families . “
Sure the church is one place, but we ARE the church everywhere we are ; with neighbors, in stores and work . Reach out where you are . Of course it depends on the church, but some just make the loneliness more profound when people go there then are ignored . It does happen sadly . The church needs to look beyond their ‘ groups ‘ within the building . Church CAN help but often doesn’t.

You can do it every day, at any time, in your own way, in the privacy of your living space.

Try getting connected when you don't have a car to get to church & no friends to help. Doesn't seem like there is a place to get advice or direction. Internet is not the same as personal interaction. Social skills have plummeted.

Well, if people are that lonely then they should adopt some pets to keep them company and go become socially active outdoors..
Go play bingo, go to a local swimming pool, go bowling and say hi to people.
No need for anyone to be lonely

How is a child hurt by it being molested? There is no physical change? A soul can be injured but the people in ministeries don't aknowlege that we even have a soul. Out sourcing love is not of the Holy spirit. And a oppressed life injures a soul. IT'S ILLEGAL TO SLEEP, sleeping IS a medical necessity do you think that being punished for sleeping injures a soul?
